Hey everyone, back again. This time looking for advice on a macaw. Over the past week I've been researching and looking online for one, oddly enough with only one response from someone who has B&G hatchlings. B&G aren't exactly what im looking for and it would be months before he/she could come home! I've looked at adopting as well and can't find one in which the rescue doesn't require that you live locally.

I've got my heart set on a Miligold, Catalina, or another colorful hybrid. Found several on birdbreeders but I guess it's easier than I imagined to sell a $1500+ parrot and they can be choosey on who they respond to OR maybe im extremely impatient lol?

I've been cage hunting trying to find the best cage for the best deal. Seems like each time I need to get a new cage the deals out there are more slim or the advertised dimensions include 7+ inches of seed skirt! Not cool. The best deal that I've come across is through Meijer believe it or not! They have a 15% off coupon code until the 3rd. Found a 40x30x58 interior dimensions for $430 after tax, coupon, and ridiculous shipping. Anyone think of a better deal before I go ahead and commit to it?

Any advice or direction is as always appreciated!

Thanks Wendy! They also have a dometop (large) for $400 all said and done w the same dimensions I just like the look of the pagoda top. I've spent hours looking everywhere and that's as low as I could find. Your extra lg looks wonderful! Does your GW appreciate the extra space? I wonder if I shouldn't go bigger as well.... what are your thoughts on the size that I've selected? It's somewhat hard for me to picture/scale as i've never seen a macaw in person.

Also anyone know of any breeders looking to sell?

The new cage hasn't arrived yet. I just placed the order 3 days ago, lol. I know Ripley will LOVE it. He uses every square inch in his current cage, and it didn't feel right for me to have Niko in a bigger cage than Ripley, when Ripley is the bigger macaw. :( And there was no way I was going to move Niko into a smaller cage, especially since he is EXTREMELY active all day long.

I prefer HUGE cages for my guys (and girl). IF you can afford a jumbo cage, I would go for it. :)

Well, you've already checked birdbreeders. Hmm...are there any local stores near you that sell weaned babies? Are you dead set on a baby mac, or would you consider a re-home as well? You can contact local rescue groups. Hey, you never know, you may actually find a re-home mac and it could be "love at first sight". :D

Im getting a Rose breasted 2 from this breeder in June [shes in Georgia ] Im in New York [he will be shipped in June ] IM SO IMPRESSED WITH HER. She has a Green wing baby .Check her out [also I have a Catalina and she is the best bird !!] Let us know :) Brightwood Aviary, Bird Species We Raise

Thanks pinky! I had seen this add but the "no PayPal no credit cards" bothered me. I use PayPal in order to be protected. That's a large purchase. I will not just send cash or check to a stranger who is states away! What would protect me if she didn't hold up her end of the deal?

Pinky what has impressed you and how are you sending payment? ?

I know exactly what you mean (about the payment part ] I guess shes had problems with paypal and cards ] Shes a smaller breeder [my deposit I sent a certified check] . Shes a smaller breeder [that was appealing ] Shes big into socializing them .I get a ton of pictures ,she has vistitors that come into see them . So their used to other people. She has them out with other birds [so they are used to that] .I just found out she taught mine recall flight [Ive never had a bird do that] She says there flying all over and come when their called [I think that's neat ] Its been such a wonderful experience [Im glad I chose her] I almost picked the GW that's how I knew about them . I would use her again in a heartbeat!!! I also like the diet there on [similar to mine] She has them almost weaned [mine] She has this thing down shes good at it and loves birds . What I liked best is shes very worried about hearing about the bird and that everythings ok when the get here. Call Carmin [ask questions ] you can use my name TERRI ] with the RB2 going to New York . Im such a thought out person [I wouldn't do it ]if I sensed anything might be wrong]

I personally would go with bigger width as a catalina macaw is tad bit bigger then a B&G so they have longer tails. For my Willie his cage is 34" in depth. It gives them the space where their tails isn't being squashed by the depth.

Thanks Terri I've emailed her and will see what happens!

Thanks for the tip Mike, good point! Guess the search continues for a bigger cage!
