Macaw Weights Thread

Hahnzel, after changing his diet from a mix to straight pellets (in addition to his fresh food) is now 139 gms. he has gone from 130gms to 139gms in about 5 months. I am hoping that is not too fast for him to be growing. He is coming up on his 2nd birthday in July and is an unflighted Hahns.

That sounds pretty good my hans weighed about 160g and was older so, sounds like little one is on the right tract:). He's also in the suggest range for a Hans.

OK.. Monte is overweight.. But no health issues other than that... Vet says he's a garfield bird.. A fat, healthy, happy bird.. That needs to go on a exercise program..

So... He's going on a daily flapping routine... Wish me luck.. Lol.

Glad to hear Monte is okay (aside from his fatness issue). Once he starts his flapping regimen he'll likely get to where he enjoys it quite a bit and I bet eventually he'll want to do it automatically. Salsa just loves his daily flapping workouts :)

So far so good... At first it was painful... I had to get him on my arm and constantly unbalance him so he'd flap...

Then we discovered if we let a box fan blow on him, he flaps more easily... So... That's what we do.. For now...

Very good! :). He's now on his way to better health :D

Yep.. Thank god... I don't want a macaw heart attack.. :(

Maybe he is just a ripped big man like Olympic weight lifter bird, all the working out is just making him gain muscle and grams, or the jokes aside he is just a huge greenwing, what does zaf boy weigh in at?

Wow he is pretty small compared to your salsa, even my gReenwing and the bluffons , mabe the harlequin top him slightly... The hyacinth i know is right around 1600g and she is an older generation of hyacinth that may be difference...

Well that shows me a little something every hy I have met has been on the upper part then.... Ranging 1500 plus and in very good health. Was just kind of astonished to see zags weight so much less then what I've seen and studied that's all, not insulting him by far he is still a beautiful hy boy:).

What I found even more interesting on This chart was the max weight he has seen for a blue and gold macaw was topping over 2000 grams, wow never even seen a blue and gold get close to that.

Thanks for the charts they really give a good look at some weights to look for always good to have data compiled from all sources;).

Thanks, justin

Yea I agree with you as I have to explain this kind of thing to people all the time, I just went off of what the couple hyacinths I knew weighed in at, I must just know some extremely large hyacinths although I do know a greenwing that looks exactly like salsa.... Most of what is out about hyacinths is people think they are eminently enourmous compared to other species of macaws, but in reality they aren't and me and you know that. The one I am talking about hitting 1600 is the one that is in a will for me so I guess I'm just getting a big girl:p.

He was one extreme fatty lol never seen anything like that in many years!

Thanks, justin
