Macaw price in Australia

Hi all,
A bit of a follow on from the previous thread, I'm interested in getting a Macaw, Mainly looking at the Hyacinth or the blue and gold and have seen prices here in Australia anywhere from $300 up to thousands and behond.

I'm knew to all this, so my question.....Why such a price diff between birds of the same type? and what can one reasonably expect to pay for a Blue and gold or Hyacinth Macaw?

I paid $4500 dollars for Fargo.. blue and golds range from $4500 to $7000, any cheaper is most likely a scam.
Hyacinths are rare, and the last one sold for $50 000+

The smaller macaws such as the hahns are roughly at the 1000 dollar mark

Blue and gold here at Melbourne are normally ranging from $5500-$6900. I've seen crazy pet stores who sells them for $10000! Any cheaper than $4000 would probablu be a scam. Yes, people sell blue and gold for $500, but that is a lie! For a hyacinth, you will be looking in the $10,000s.

For the smaller macaws like hahns and severe, they are normally from $1000-$3000.

If you do decide to buy a macaw, I recommend you buy from a good breeder since pet stops normally sells them for a higher price.

I agree with Lily, i got Fargo from one of the best breeders in Australia, and he was 2000 dollars cheaper than a pet shop!

I totally agree with lily and tab, anything under 4k is 99.99999999999% scam.

Hyacynths are so very rare and expensive, plus they are the biggest of all macaws.

My macaw was $4500 from again one of the best breeders in aus. He loes his birds so much he struggles to let them go. None of his macaws have any stress lines at all.

So yeh 4500/7000$ should be your rough starting area, then another 600/1000$ for a cage and more for toys food vet checkups ect.
