Macaw gets cranky when large feather is about to fall out

My macaw is a very gentle soul. He never gets irritated EXCEPT when a large feather (wing or tail) is about to fall out! It is 100% prefictable. He just accused me (falsely) of causing his discomfort for 10 seconds, a large wing feather fell out and now he is back to his loving self. I suppose those big feathers really bother them as they are just about to drop.

Does your bird behave the same way?

Salty gets a wacky, twisted feather in his tail once in awhile. Cranky is right!
