I had been going to Home Depot and getting the 'seconds' wood they put on the cart which is 85% off. I don't care if the wood is warped, as The Girls are going to do a lot worse to it and most people want perfectly straight wood so this is a win-win situation. Always remember, no cedar or treated woods.
I had been borrowing a friend's miter saw and once I had a good supply of the wood, I would borrow it and go to work on cutting it up. Jody doesn't like her wood thick whereas Kalea doesn't care so it works great when cutting and I get closer to the end of that board I don't worry about getting my hands too close to the blade, I just throw that bigger piece into Kalea's 50 gallon garbage can. I refuse to go to any ER because of cutting any fingers on the saw.
Last year my friend's neighbor started doing garage sales as they are selling their house and moving to Hawaii and the hubby is into construction and also repaired semi truck so this guy had great tools and I asked if he had a 12 inch miter saw but at first he did not want to sell it just yet but then he changed his mind and let me have it for $80. The one I was borrowing was only a 10 inch and when cutting 6 inch wide boards there was this little piece the blade just could not quite saw off so I would end up having to break that with my hands and after a while that was hurting so when I started looking at saws I knew I only wanted one that was 12 inches. I have to say also that the one I bought cut it so much easier, like butter.
I also have to add that the wood I get from Home Depot I like a lot better than what is at Lowe's.
Something else that I learned with Jody and Kalea is they really don't like the wood that much if I hang it on something. Those two are bigger buzz saws if I just put the wood on their shelf's in the cage and they pick it up and chew it that way.
