I went to the pet store to get Clifford stainless steel bowls so he cant chew them and to check the Ekkie eggs (which are infertile :-( ) and saw this! It's a 10 week old lovely little baby and I am hopelessly IN LOVE. he/she is the most lovie little thing in the whold wide world. what am I going to do now???? sigh. Grey research, here I come. Tips, advice, concerns etc....give me your worst. Whats a good price range for a baby handfed grey? They are a little more than I expected....but I'd pay it if its not terribly bad, because I LOVE him/her.

I adore our cag, we've been really lucky with him. He loves to talk, laugh and play. He isnt much of a cuddle bug and hates baths, lol. But we got him at 7 years old, so i dont know how they are as babys. Ive seen babies in the 1000$ price range, and up. I would buy more greys if i had the money, room and attention. Good luck! :)

That's pretty close to what I paid for Jasper. Right now he is the sweetest thing I've ever met. By the end of the year I'm bracing myself for that change that could happen. We'll see. I wish I knew how to treat him more like a buddy and less of a child so maybe it won't be as bad!

oops! I posted on the other post :)

I saw mele, I would definatled wait until he/she is weaned!! dont worry! we may have a bit of a problem though....My boyfriend went to check the babies out and fell in love with the 4 week old blue and gold mccaw. 4 week old birds are the ugliest/cutest things you will ever see it is hard not to fall in love with them. I Told him he better do his research before he falls too much in love!

OMG i can't stand baby cags! they're the cutest thing ever ugh. >.<
i have to fall in love too whenever i come across any, haha. but yeah, if you can afford
to get one, then don't think about it anymore. they are very affectionate and wonderful
birds. just make sure you give it all the attention it needs (out of cage time, etc) and
make sure it gets enough sunlight (or full spectrum lighting) for it's vitamin D. don't
want to cause calcium deficiency. ;(

also, they can get really dusty if they don't bathe regularly.. but still, an air purifier
would be a great investment so everyone's happy.

and of course.. make sure yooou...... post up a lot of photos when you get it! :D

You should get him if you do the research and still like Grey's. I am saving up for one.

I think I'm going to get him/her. My boyfriend and I are going to talk about it this weekend. He is convinced that he is getting the baby mccaw instead but he does not know the difference in those birds, and I honestly don't think that we will be ready for that. So I'm taking lots of info home with me and we will decide what we want to do in a couple of days. I really do love this grey baby. ugh

oh, and I forgot to tell you all baby birdie is 1100.00 I can pay a deposit and pay the rest out while I wait for him to come home. The pet store is right down the street from my work so I can go and see him everyday! I have seen them cheaper and seen them more expensive, and I can afford it. Plus he is giving me 20% off for the life of the bird so anytime I need anything its cheap! Except for food of course. Sure I could get one cheaper, but I love this one, so I don't care! :)

what "change"???

Greys are my favorite!! And I've had many different birds. But, only 1 Grey that I inherited. He was old, but, we knew each other my whole life before getting him. I had him about 9 years until he died at about 50 years old. I loved him so much, and have not been able to think about getting another one. Until recently. In Florida, they cost about $800 to $1200 for a hand fed baby. I want to adopt a rescue, though, because I'm 60 years old, and a baby will long outlive me. Those photos & Joeyx's photos of his, tear my heart out!

Oh, Bill, I hope you find the right rescue!

Cliffordsmom, sounds like you are already smitten!

As for the change, I think it doesn't always happen. I think it's partly the bird, and partly the owner whether the baby will begin testing boundaries. Rowdy was already there when I got her, but she had been in the pet store for 5 months and learned she could push around all the employees. My Blue Crown though never went through this stage at all, but I got her as soon as she was weaned. The other 2 are adopted by me as older birds, and fairly recently. There was no honeymoon period though where they were on best behavior and then weren't; they are the same as when I brought them home. If anything we are more bonded now.

oh man i'm so sorry haha. ;(

In the wild I think they stay with mom and dad a bit longer than they stay with the people who are feeding them so while it's not sexual maturity yet, think of it as the teens. They sometimes go through the independent stage (according to all I have read) and especially in a multi-person house this is one of those possible times they could change alliances.

Every bird is different of course and I'm sure there are members here who haven't experienced that with their baby. Right now I am by myself so it's probably not a big deal but it's possible down the road I might be moving in with some friends in VA. Hopefully it's not something that will happen.

Sorry! Posted this in answer to "what change" and didn't realize we were on page 2! Sorry Roxy.. /grovel

I don't want to sway this thread away from Cliffordsmom, but, I must say thanks to so many people here on the Parrot Forum who've reached out to me about getting a CAG. As I've told you all, the problem is not finding one, it's paying for one. I'm saving my money, and will have my Grey soon. And, I would like to get one from a shelter or rescue. So, again, Thank you all for thinking of me.

that sucks, about paying for one. in my country, greys are one of the most common birds and their base price is usually pretty decent. i won't get into prices here because they are ridiculous at pricing birds but yeah, i feel for you. ;(

i hope you all of you grey lovers get loving greys soon! <3

No worries! Don't apologize. I just thought maybe we scared Cliffordsmom with "the change" and decided to answer:)

I will admit, too, Briana, the Blue Crown just may not have had it in her to exert independence. She was the least parrot like parrot I have had. She actually could have benefited from some "parrot attitude", especially during vet visits which were so traumatic for her. She was more like a little angel in the body of a parrot.
