I managed to put together the Linnie cage this morning with two little helpers. Even with the help (LOL) I managed to put it together in a little over an hour. That includes putting in all the toys, perches and dishes! Not too shabby I thought!

I am very happy with the cage, but the latches are horrible. The front door one consists of a long metal bar with a hook and the side doors for the food don't even have latches. They just have springs to keep them closed. I think they are grossly under estimating the intelligence of small parrots! I will be adding my own latches! The long metal rod for the front door is just a pain to get in and out. I will find something easier for the kids to maneuver! Any suggestions would be great as I am totally new to the small parrot world. :D

Oh did fail to mention one thing! I have to put the bottom grate & plastic pan in through the back. I put it together backwards! So the insert opening is in the back! Hopefully that will give a few of you a good laugh! :D

Oh! Also forgot we have two little huts on order that will go in there, too! Also, one of the 4 plastic dishes broke while trying to put it in! :( I have a heavy hand sometimes!

LOL funny you put it together backwards!

It looks great! Are you going to change out those wooden dowels over time? Grapewood perches are amazing for birdie feet :)

Yes I am! :D I have a couple of natural ones that I will put in once I dig them out before the Linnies come home! My kids were anxious and wanted me to put something in there for now. LOL!

I told myself I was going to pay close attention so I wouldn't do that. Did that work? No! LOL!

Isn't that what we all do best with our fids...spoil them! :D

When I put together a cage by myself once I put it together backwards too.....lol.....I had to dis-assemble it and re-assemble it all by myself and it was a pain to put together without a second person to help....lol. I didn't break the dishes either, but they were stainless steel! :D

Ha Ha! You did better then me Mikey! I will just pull the cage out from the wall to slip out the tray. Too much of a pain to correct at this point. I didn't realize it until I was totally done and ready to slip in the bottom grate and tray! LOL! Besides that's what wheels are for! ;)

very nice!, you must be sooooo excited, all your effort show that.

your linnies will LOVE that cage, but I think I see a little bit of chain exposed on the top of the boinger, I'm not sure if I saw it correctly, if so could you please cover it up with vet wrap so I can sleep well tonight, lol.

I sure can! I have some vet wrap handy! Better safe then sorry! :D

What an awesome setup, Blanca!!! They will LOVE it, no doubt about it. :D

Hey, you have plenty of time to turn everything around, so it won't be backwards, HAHAHAHAHAH. I got a good laugh about that one. :)

I'm glad my blunder gave a few people some laughs Wendy! LOL! :D

I have too much other stuff to do to play around with it for now. But if I find the time, I may consider fixing it! We'll see. LOL! Worse case, the wheels will become very useful! LOL! ;)

When I got Alice, the shop through it would be perfectly ok to give me a bird and a flat packed cage at the same time... I assumed I could put her on her play stand while I built the cage, but instead she glued herself to the back of my neck and refused to budge. Building anything with a terrified cockatoo glued to your person is a challenge I don't plan on taking on anytime soon. After a couple of hours a friend came round and did the bulk of it whilst I consoled the poor bird.

Anyway, the linnie's cage looks great, looking forward to seeing them. I'm finding myself really taken with these little fellas!

Jayyj - That must have been fun! I had two helpers, but they were my kids aged 3 and 7 and they were actually quite helpful! LOL! I would think it would be very hard to put a cage together with a too on your neck! LOL! Glad you had a friend come help you put the rest together so you can visit with your new sweet girl! :D

Linnies are just too sweet and adorable. I am not generally a small bird person but I decided my kids needed small birds (there size) to handle and play with. My big guys are just too big and Quincy likes to bite! In the process of deciding for a bird initially for my daughter I have fallen in love with these little cuties and so has she. My son has taken interest, so now we are getting two so my son can join the fun. Plus more fun for me too! ;) I will continue to post photos as I get them!
