I'm busy putting together an new gym for Percy using only natural wood branches. I've collected spruce, eucalyptus, guava, bottlebrush, mulberry & yellow wood branches. Going has been slow because I cleaned and debarked portions of all the branches to get rid of less than perfect bark and any sharp bits.

Today, I had this idea to create leaves for his play tree, using leather. Here is a leaf I cut from leather and painted with food colouring. I'm thinking I can make a hole in one point and thread it onto the branches with leather strips.

Except the effort of keeping it clean, can you guess any other problems with this wild idea?

Had you not told us the photo is actual leather, I would have never guessed it was. Holy smokes, you are SO SO talented! That looks extraordinarily real. :11:

I don't think you'll have any problems with it. My Sam loves gnawing on leather. If you can keep it out of poop's way, it should be fine. IF he poops on it somehow, try and get it immediately, as otherwise you may rub off some of the coloring if you get it wet. :D

i don't see any problem with it.
I too thought when i only saw the picture it was just a leaf, good work.
But please do give us picture's when it is finished!!!

Just keep in mind that if he has a chew on those leaves, he might stain his feathers and have a very odd looking mouth, as well as some unusual poops :p

Well, that is actually the reason for me considering this, Mekaisto. I have loads of veg leather that I bought for toys but Percy won't touch leather at all. He chews everything around it and leaves the leather looking pristine. I've resued certain pieces of leather several times because he doesn't damage it at all when playing with his toys. I'm looking for a use for it so I thought up this cockamamie idea ;)

However, he surprises me all the time and he may well decide suddenly to chew on them. I will keep an eye out :)

I am amazed once again at the depth of your talent! I also thought that was a real leaf you were using as a model for your leather one. You have got to start selling some of your creations:)

Awww shucks! ;). Thanks guys.

But it really is nothing special, I just painted on the food colouring and scored the leather with a knife to make the veins. It took me all of two minutes.

Thanks for the nice comments :) :)
