i just want to say, i'm sorry for this situation. you love jacob very much, and apartment living can be difficult with birds.

i personally work midnights on weekends and my husband works midnights during the week. we live with 2 very quiet cockatiels and two very noisy lovebirds. our lovebirds are in our bedroom and they make quite the racket. we sleep through their noises when needed quite easily.

i would definitely try the headphone/ear plug idea! it's very feasible.

for us, we find having background noise keeps their noises more subtle as i find unexpected noise wakes us up. also, i would have a television or radio on low with jacob, it might help mask his screaming, and also might help him stay quieter. i know you arent the one with a sleeping problem. but i find my birds are also very loud if the home is quiet. they feel uncomfortable and i find they scream more because of it. they like hearing the TV and radio. we often put kids shows on like Phineas and Ferb, or Spongebob, or Disney movies (right now its a Shrek marathon in our bedroom haha my husband put the 4 Shrek movies on repeat... been a couple days now of the same movies over and over...) They like the noise in the home and keeps them quieter.

yeah, midnights workers inconvenience a lot of people BUT, we're the minority so if we have noisy daytime neighbours we should just suck it up. its not their fault we have to sleep during the day and its not fair to ask others to be quiet during the day just for the sake of sleep. just my opinion. as said, we're midnights workers too and we have noisy neighbours by daytime. we dont get mad at them--its not their fault! we are up at night certain nights but we stay quiet for our daytime neighbours, because we are a minority and we should be respectful of the majority of people, not be selfish. so your neighbour should be a little bit more respectful of the fact that SHE is the minority in the complex and should expect daytime noise.

instead of having to get rid of YOUR family, she should try to find other solutions... after all, what is she going to do to the daytime traffic, radios, people, lawn mowers, etc? cant tell them to go away just because she happens to be the odd one out who lives a nocturnal lifestyle ;)
