Kokkie’s crumbs, pieces of a Grey’s story.

So very happy to hear about the addition to your home. Kokkie has all the appearance of a Grey that has found a place to be comfortable. What joy it must be to witness the coming-out of this wonderful soul. Her intelligent's shines in her eye's, she could easily be a trickster and a real joyous addition to your home!

Welcome back dear friend!
Thank you so much for the welcome back. As you know, these fids get so deep into our souls. It’s taken time! Kokkie is something special. She’s come very far and today will be getting her new townhouse. The current condo is insufficient! Will post pics.

Grey’s feathers range from deep grey to a pale grey/white. Females are lighter than the males. Some greys, like Kokkie, have extra red feathers scattered around their bodies (aka Red Factor). Sometimes this just happens spontaneously. Other times, it results from plucking. Females will naturally pluck feathers to line their nests (Kokkie has done this) and sometimes the feathers grow back red.
She looks beautiful- her feathers are so soft and fluffy! So happy she isn't plucking now.

Kokkie had a very small round cage she slept in at night. Right now temps are too cold for her to be on the verandah in her large outdoor cage. When the sun comes out we hang out there for a while but still too chilly. The round cage was what she had for all these years and I was slowly transitioning her to being out of cage more than in. When I was comfortable with her being out so much and not neurotic about her little cage, I bought a used cage (don’t worry safely disinfected) and began setting it up. She LOVES it from the first day, no worries! I just put a few toys in and will add bit by bit. I love the sun that comes in so she gets light and can still be warm.

Love the photo, she clearly looks happy!
Big Smile and I am a big bird, cause I got a big cage, now!!
This morning’s groom entails the usual toenail check. Looking at her now, I can see feathers covering areas that were bare just a few months ago. She has such personality now. Loves to be cheeky and when i tell her “no” about something she looks at me and says, “pfffft.” 😂

Haha! What a sassy girl! I love it. Sometimes when we tell Ona "no" she pauses, stares at us, and then just starts screaming 😬 What little drama queens.

Please tell the beautiful Kokkie that I know a VERY good pedicurist who would be only too happy to offer his services. He goes by the name of Lovejoy, and Peach the princess parrot highly recommends him!

Kokkie is very picky. She may have a commoner join her club in the coming months to do her bidding but trusts no one else with her toes.

That's ok, and Kokkie is quite correct to be discerning. Princess Peach is happy to advise her that her Royal Toesies have never received greater care, and being a lorikeet he's pretty good at the sweet talk too! 💖

Kokkie very proud of fluff and little feathers on her neck. The little red feather looks like a bow tie 😄. Neck was totally bare but now slowly filling in. Maybe her stripping days are over! She’s turning into an honest chick!

I hope she doesn’t go back to plucking.
My Bella goes through periods of feather regrowth and plucking.
ATM her feathers are in regrowth mode but she never stops barbering and that gives her an unkempt appearance.

At least Bella hasn't damaged her follicles from plucking!

Me too. Kokkie’s plucking is almost certainly stress-induced. At first, when I took her out and worked with her, she was plucking at her shoulder feathers. I began just taking her out and sitting with her, no other interaction. She started to settle. Now, she is fine, although I monitor the stress and make sure she has plenty of good food. Her neck is likely going to stay bare to remind us of her stripper past 😂

Well, now you have done it, gone and placed an expectation in place. Plucking is such a hard to define behavior and standard response is to love when it looks like it is fading away. But, knowing you, what every happens tomorrow will be accepted with Love! Even if she elects to return to her prior profession!!

Yes, she will always be cared for here. Yesterday, she was angry with me as she had to have a shower. She absolutely despises them but absolutely needs them. She went years without which might have also contributed to the plucking.

She thus refused to hang out for a while until she couldn’t stand it another minute when we were all hanging out in the living room. All was forgiven and she happily sat and chirped for the evening on my knee.

The grey tantrum is a real thing.

Making friends with my husband, she loves him so much! He’s slowly trusting her. She sat with him for a good 10 minutes (wouldve been longer but the phone rang so he had to go) and was so happy
