Kiwi Stardust - a green cheek conure
Hi everyone!!!

Today TWO of kiwi's tail feathers fell off...she shook her little butt and woosh away they went.

She is currently moulting - there are pin feathers alllll over, including her wings.

It was a little concerning seeing those two long beautiful tail feathers falling off though..am I being too much of a worry wart?

No matter how pretty they may look, they've gotta replace them eventually! So yea your over worrying... ;)

Kiwi's giving you a souvenir. You could make some earrings out of them!

ok whew!! Thanks guys!! Yes i'm definitely keeping those feathers ..earrings are a great idea!!

The upside to all this is she is SUUUUPPPERR cuddly..she's been hanging out and cuddling pretty much all day because she enjoys the scritches!

My kids loved it when our Charlie lost a couple of tail feathers! We now have them safe as memories of our precious birdie.

I've been throwing feathers away....when you have many birds and had them many years, you have a huge feather collection....lol

Send them my way, my wedding bouquet is made from feathers, and my sister makes all sorts of jewelry out of them.

does anyone know how long it takes for tail feathers to grow out? Prissy has a lot of pins (I think that's what they are... hard plastic like things) about how long does it take for them to fully grow in?

Oh wow.....I've tossed out most of them already and saved some good ones and give some away....people always wanted my macaw's tail feathers....And now I've got double the macaw and double the feathers....lol....But no more tail feathers for now as they're done molting those already....Sometimes I don't even get to them in time before the dogs grabs ahold of the feathers and start chewing on them and have them destroyed....

It can take a few weeks or so at least for the longer feathers to fully grow out and for the blood to recede.
