I believe you are absolutely right about possible substance abuse!
He either needs to bring enough for everyone or undergo drug testing and possible sanctions.

The grey secret service was having trouble reigning in the ruffians. The cowbirds have come in full force. The greys have fallen deeply out of shape, not as quick as they should be so Kevin called in for help.
Kevin, not at all impressed to spend extra money, has called in a personal bird trainer to get the greys in shape.

Look how Kevin reacts to scratches. He grabs his feet and makes little clucking sounds. He still does not allow stepping up, that will take more and more time. He loves interacting on his terms and I’m happy to follow what he says.
I get so sad when people think they can just get a bird and it’s so easy. It isn’t. Kevin is proof of the damage done when a bird is neglected and mistreated.
On a happier note you can see on his drumsticks how feathers are growing in finally! His legs were bare when he came nearly 2 yrs ago.

The foot/leg chewing thing I believe is a sign of contentment. When Amy gets skritches he does the same thing. I tell him not to chew too hard he might hurt himself.

The slow walk to joy! When the past is slowly allowed to melt away, wondrous moments avail themselves! It is a joy that just keeps giving with time between to fully enjoy each step forward!
I feel your pain with a previous mistreated parrot.
My Penny everyday is oh my gosh you are trying to kill me , help, help, oh you are not so bad , yes pet me. Then oh no you tried to kill me again. She will try and bite and us easy to frighten, then she calms down and wants pets and to be glued to me. Then the start of the new day, she is fearful again, then warms up again. In her heart she is a loving parrot, but I have to pay close attention to things that make her fearful.
It's so wonderful that Kevin is with you, that he wants your attention, and that he has come so far. All we can do is educate people on what Havi a parrot is like, and how to care for them.

So important. They bite out of fear and that’s not their fault it’s their only defense and by golly if they use it! We have to take the high road and learn and keep going.
I love Kevin. He is so smart and now he plays me like a fiddle.
Long term goal for him is to have an aviary where he feels safer and freer. Bless him. Likely he won’t be my close companion like my other grey Nigel was but I’m satisfied that he is happy and healthy and has enough humor in him to torment me [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
