Kali seems to be doing fine
She is still sneezing but other than a slightly raised blood cell count, she is doing fine.
She still sneezes a lot but has not had much discharge.
The vet wants me to use childrens benadryl on her.her as treatment. Anyone else have experience with that? I am hoping this settles her down. My baby is very important to me. I would do anything to make her happy and healthy... including moving if our air quality isnt good.

Glad Kali is feeling a bit better, but bummer on her having severe allergies:( Have they identified the allergen(s) yet? I have never heard of using human allergy medication in birds before so I would be very careful to follow the exact dosages prescribed by the vet. To be fair, I've also never encounter a parrot with allergies, so that may be a common treatment for all I know... Hope she continues to improve, and it sounds like she will with such a wonderful 'flock' behind her:D

Have you considered an air purifier? I think they're wonderful. I can really tell it's working. The air is so "fresh and clean" even when room is closed up.

She does appear to be doing better and I have read where it is common to use benadryl for bird allergies and that allergies are fairly common in macaws. It however is not recommended for long term treatment.
They did not say what was triggering her allergies.
I do have an air purifier in the room. I live in a moist/humid area so i am worried about fungal and mold related infections to.
I watch her very closely and am hoping things will improve now that I have made some changes.

I just wanted to post another update. Kali is still sneezing snd giving her the children's benadryl has been a terrible experience for Kali and I. I have gotten wiser and now use a needle to inject pieces of banana with it. She may not always get the full dose but she usually gets most of it.

I also upgraded her air filter today to Lowe's Home Improvement
I am hoping that this will make the difference and I will not need to dose her anymore.

Great! The HEPA filter purifiers are the best. They even remove microscopic mold spores. Best wishes.

My fingers are crossed for you and Kali! That must suck, having to contend with allergies. My son is allergic to life and that sucks enough, but at least he can tell me when things are bothering him and what I can do that makes him feel better :( Plus, you know.. I don't have to hide his medicine :p

That is clever about the banana, though. I'll have to remember that trick!

Poor Kali:( Has the vet completely ruled out an infection? When we got Kiwi, he came home with a nasty respiratory infection and was sneezing a lot (also had nasal discharge). It took 2 rounds of antibiotics to knock it out.

She has not ruled that out and Kali's white blood cell count was slightly elevated which is indicative of a slight infection. The vet is not concerned with it in its current state and believes it is from severe allergies. I am to try the benadryl for about a week but if that does not help, the vet will prescribe antibiotics.
I am willing to do anything to make her life as perfect as I can. I am hoping the 300.00 I just spent will help:53:
