RIP Mr Biggles White Fronted Amazon , Elsa and Little Nellow the Lutino Budgies, Lady Primrose a Pied Budgie and English Budgies Houdini Popeye and Olive
Just over 3 weeks after the Amazing Mr Biggles my White Fronted Amazon passed away suddenly I happened to hear about Rodney (then called Sprocket).
Rodney had made his way through a fair few aviaries in Ireland and was known as a bit of a Dennis the Menace character, for wherever he went, disharmony and chaos and Avian World War 3 with feathers flying, followed him.
Finally at the last aviary he stayed in, the guy who owned the Aviary decided to remove Rodney, and place him in a cage for re-homing as a pet parrot rather than move him on to another aviary, so he caged him and called him Sprocket...he said the name just seemed to fit as the guy he had purchased Sprocket from had called him Pocket, meaning "money in his pocket "
The aggression continued in the cage and Rodney then Sprocket, was partial to drawing some blood and crushing a finger or two and fanning the tail and pinning the eyes and charging with intent at folk ( male or female who ventured to cross his territorial line )...this was not proving successful so they decided to to look for someone who might work with Sprocket as they really didn't want an Amazon Parrot pet, they had other things in mind and more of a love for African Greys as pets than Amazon's ...also Sprocket was not a good eater and only ate a commercial food mix at this time and refused veggies or fruit except an apple...he liked apples
I took 3 weeks to think about it and eventually was ready to accept what I t bought was an Aggressive Wild and contrary Amazon who rang all the wrong gongs in my brain into my home, instead I got Rodney (same parrot but showing toaally different characteristics) who announced his name to me by saying, "Good Boy Rodney" a few times upon his arrival
Yes, Rodney is a little wild but nothing like the Crazy Amazon he had been in the Aviary and he has gently caught my finger a couple of times in his beak but didn't hurt, and he is also eating veggies for me, so either Rodney is a Dr Jeckel and My Hyde character, or something just suddenly clicked for Rodney and he settled down, or perhaps it could be because I called him by the name he knew since he was little, who knows? For Im not 100% sure his name is Rodney either, Im just basing it on the words I heard Rodney say on entering my home. I asked that the cage he has lived in for the past 6 months be brought with him and all the items in his cage that he was used of. He came with two toys one a chewy toy which I left in his cage for now, even though its well chewed , and the other a bell that did not appear to be stainless steel or brass, so I removed it ASAP. I wanted his cage and toys to come with him, for I didn't want the added stress of him losing his cage as well as his familiar surroundings and sounds.
From the moment Rodney arrived he seemed to take to me and of course I fell head over heels in Love with him.
We do have a lot of work to do but we have gotten off to a Great start. I believe my White Fronted Angel, Mr Biggles, may have had a word in Rodney's ear. Plus he got him to eat veggies and fruit for me ...Yaaay
Hope you all enjoy our videos ♡
