just rescued a 6 month old green cheek girl

Its not uncommon for bird owners to just let the birds out to 'walk' the streets in NYC. I saw several on the adoption page of the columbia avian center that had been found abandoned in the street in New York and Brooklyn..

I 'rescued' my maroon belly conure from a local Petco where he had been for almost a year and I felt a similar feeling of finally giving him a proper home.
This little bird is going to be so happy with you:)

Congrats on the rescue!

Zupreem is a good brand; I prefer the Southwestern and Harvest Feast varieties - both have sugar but both have real vegetables put into them. More than just celery... Harrisons is the best brand, which I will eventually get, but even my rescue bird Tybbi has improved since getting her, with Zupreem (she was badly malnourished when I got her...)

Great cleanup job on the cage!

When I got Tybbi, I got a vet checkup for her right away. That's how I found out she was malnourished, appx 5 years old, and otherwise had no ailments that could be passed to the others.

If your bird's beak is peeling and the feathers are tattered or short, there could be a vitamin deficiency...

I don't work there or own stock there or anything, but check out MySafeBirdStore - DISCOUNTED Bird Products - Safe & Healthy from a Bird Free Environment. Best prices on the 'net. Same day shipping. for a wider varieties of toys, swings, boings, etc... their service is GREAT and some of the toys are fantastic for birds... Tybbi in particular is kept busy, but they've all benefited... I apologize for making that sound like an advert, but my previous experiences have been fantastic and they definitely deserve the business.

Yeah and if I ever wanna get her a friend it should be plenty big for 2 of them

I should probably start step up training with Rico but I have been letting him slowly get more confident around me first.....

Your bird has a whole lot of what I call "pricklies"! Looks like it's time to schedule some warm baths.

Just as a heads up, Zupreem has a voluntary food recall.... so it may not be the best thing to be feeding right now... Roudybush, Harrison's, TOP's, Mazuri... these may be better brands.

Yes, and how items can sit on the shelves, it doesn't hurt to double check your packages! Or go with a different brand.

I've used Zupreem, but I'm not a big fan of it. At least, I never did like the rainbow poops that never had any form to them, and I wasn't really a fan of the sugar in it... (all pet bird food diets from them) but that's what one bird came to me eating!

She looks a lot happier with you! I'm glad you got her. Some people shouldn't own pets.

Just a safety note, the first cage pictured has a 0.75" bar spacing which is too big for a GCC (half their body can go through). It is best to stay with 1/2" to 5/8" max.

Also, the happy hut is one that can be dangerous because of all the stitching on it. I had the same one and didn't think much of it even after I read the warning. Well, one of my baby's head got stuck in a loop and if I hadn't been here to save him, he would have died from strangulation. Conures tend to bite their hut and the threading comes undone at places and become dangerous. Here is a better type : http://www.mysafebirdstore.com/HUTS_TENTS-SCOOTER_Z_REVERSIBLE_SNUGGIE_X-SMALL-_X-LARGE.html
