Just got a Black Capped Conure

Hey all-

I just got a black capped conure. Petco sold her to me and she has no paperwork. She does have a band on her left leg that says SP 5191. Can anyone tell me what this means? Also she has the typical mites from Petco that's not spreadable to me or my dogs. Any recommendations? I know Petco is not the best place to get a bird, but I really had a connection her (Clover). I love black crowned conures! I love the scalloped neck feathers that look like heavy necklaces. There's a really cute one on YouTube along with his green cheek buddy (Sunny & Mango).

Make sure you get her checked by an avian vet and treated properly for mites. Ivermectin is the best treatment and it's dosed specially for birds. Mites are very uncomfortable for the poor bird.

The band has letters and numbers that mean nothing to anyone but the her breeder. The breeder put the bands on when the chicks are less than a couple weeks old and is supposed to keep hatch date and parentage records on the chicks. Ideally, whoever buys the bird gets copies of these records but often they either don't or they get lost.

OK Thank you so much for your input. I will look up Sunny and Mango. I know, I use to work at a vet and I know how painful mites are. Thank you. I will also be getting her to a vet ASAP.
