Can you take a picture of it to silence people's concerns? We may be using the same name for different things

Aha mystery solved!

see the type I was picturing and I'm sure others were was this kind
concrete_perch_for_budgies_cockatiels_lovebirds.jpg
which as you can guess is quite heavy

now as for the others. Those are not "mistakes" those are utter disasters at best. Hitting your own bird with your car is something I've never heard of in my life, there's no way she should have been able to get outside when you weren't in the house.

you're definitely not learning from your mistakes, if you were then they wouldn't keep getting hurt. Take me for example, I had a teflon item which I believe killed Rio, since then I've changed my entire home life and I don't even have a bird right now. I've changed all of my cleaning products and even changed up my own diet to avoid accidents in the future. You need to do the same sort of thing, take a step back actually look at things and change it up. If you're not prepared to do so and I mean really change everything, then those birds need to go to someone else

I completely agree...and one mistake can happen to anyone. It is the sheer number of life threatening issues here that keep happening that is the problem.
Kudos to you for changing everything even before you add a new bird to your home!

Pix of Jordan's stitches or it didn't happen. I might could possibly believe that an emergency vet would have the training and skill - not to mention the brass cojones - to anesthetize, x-ray, and stitch up a minor wound on a tiny bird. I could also possibly believe that Patagonian drug lords snuck into the house, stole one of Jordan's kidneys, sewed him back up, and hypnotized you into remembering "it was the perch...it was the perch". I'm looking at you, Rickeybird.

So wait, who's Lucky? First I've ever heard about Lucky being a part of your flock, why didn't you mention Lucky? Is this bird dead or still alive? You said you killed them....how? I'm getting so confused with all these accidents, poison, sibling issues, cat attack, vehicle accidents happening with your flock. I guess all I can say is....mistakes happen, but after the 5-6th accident, I wonder if you are putting your love of companionship from your flock over their safety.

The signs are there (all these accidents and mistakes) and you seem to be ignoring every single one of them. I know you love your birds, but you seem to not care enough to do the right thing here...which is to rehome them to someone who can provide safe and better care.

Lucky is alive,.

I said that I killed HIM not THEM. I killed Chrissy, I was the one who hit him, that is how I know he was hit by a car.

And that could have happened to anyone and their bird. Being hit by a car was something that could very well happen while he was outside.

Cat attack, poison, Chrissy's escape, and Jordan's perch accident. That's only 4 accidents/mistakes.

I don't ignore them, I try to learn from them, improve and prevent the same thing from happening again.

Accidents happen, but a pattern of typical and outlandish losses begs for reconsideration. You would do your fids a great service by rehoming and taking a break from parronting. The good news is you are young and hopefully capable of maturing into a capable advocate for birds.

Amy and BB have those bolt on concrete perches and the multi-colored ropey type bolt ons. I DO you wooden ones but MAKE MY OWN from wood that I get at home depot/lowes.
I cut them a tad longer then what I should, then use a hack saw or dremel to put the slots in.
I have to PRY their house bars out a bit,to get them to go into the slots I cut. When I release the bars, they are firmly and deeply into the slots.
There is no way in heck that one is going to be able to drop.

Why on earth would you be IN a car,and have your FID OUTSIDE the car,unattended..obviously on the ground ( to be hit by a car) or the fid was flying about and got hit.
I'm sorry, there is something terribly wrong with this picture...

What happened was, if I remember right, PL2001 took Chrissy outside without a harness and she flew off. Originaly she was thought to be snatched by a hawk but then it must've been another bird. I think PL2001 went to go look for Chrissy as in she went driving around the neighborhood looking for her and that's when she hit her and killed her. I think....

"I didn't know you could stitch a bird that small"

Amy had five stitches to her TONGUE...when Smokey bit it!

I'm not sure if I should post anything since I don't get on here & post much. But, reading everything up to this point, one thing stood out while reading it. Ok, don't get me wrong (see, I already feel the "attacks" before even posting), I love animals, I wouldn't have them if I didn't. One thing we all have to do is remember that not everyone is versed with using the words we want/need at the time of posting, especially if/when upset. Take me for instance, I have medical problems which makes it hard to think of words when needed. I totally get what everyone is saying about wanting the best for these birds and that not everyone is capable of having the means (money & know how) to care for them. Not everyone has a certified avian vet near them. I've been trying to find one close to me for a long time - thought I'd found one but that vet had moved on. I'm hoping the vet's office I take my dog to will see my bird's-a newly acquired vet worked with birds during her studies but doesn't specialize in the-and please, no comments on how awful that I don't find one who does specialize. Not everyone have avian vets in their area. Rural places don't always have the "need" to have someone like that or cannot afford to keep them which I'm guessing is why the local one moved on. I, too, was thinking poster was talking about the perches that are heavy which normally screwed on and I couldn't figure out how in the world it could be put on w/o screws. I'm glad for the picture of the other kind, which I have had but still didn't think of. Maybe it's because I came in late and am able to see all of the comments together but I read so many negative comments (some clearly hateful/meant to be mean) and just wish there were more helpful comments. It's not always clear to the reader the "sound" behind the post and that's why we need to be careful on the wording. Some will probably think I'm needing to come off my high horse but honestly, I don't even own a horse. In case you can't tell, that was supposed to be funny. I'm not stupid even though I'm blonde & I wasn't being sarcastic even though I'm married to the king of sarcasm. I'll probably regret posting this as soon as it's posted but, regrets, I've had a few...[emoji445]
This comes from being a member on other media forums and being "attacked" for the littlest thing. I had wanted to just show something but oh, my, it really got ridiculous. So, yeah. It WAS NOT on here. [emoji5]

Normally I'd agree with the essence of what you're saying. And I respect the spirit of it. The reason this situation is different is the history involved. No one here gets "attacked for the littlest thing". This forum actually prides itself on being a tolerant and respectful one. A place to learn and build on the experiences of others to become a better parront.

BUT...

There comes a time when a keeper of parrots should ask him/herself whether they really are a bird person. Some people just aren't. And my thought is, if your flock has had multiple deaths, injuries, and potentially fatal incidents within the space of maybe half a year... perhaps keeping birds is not for you.

Further, when stories told change from one day to the next, when a bird proclaimed as dead is miraculously touted as alive and well, or when a bird taken by a hawk one day is touted as a victim of mistaken identity and then struck by a car driven by the OP on the next, well... credibility takes a bit of a hit as well.

So no, it's not a case of anyone having trouble expressing themselves in a post. Rather, it's a case of history looming large and lessons unheeded begging to be heard.

And no, you're not going to be attacked for what you've said. I understand it. I even respect it. Just thought I'd give you a bit of context.

That said, we're agreed that nothing productive is coming from this thread as it has pretty much run its course. So this thread is now closed.
