Yesterday I bought Jazzy an Aviator harness while buying the flock some toys and food at the aviary.
I had Jazzy on my lap kind of rolling around with her tail constantly blocking my view of the TV so I reached over and decided to open the Aviator harness. I know how to use them and the training involved. I just wanted to see how big the X-Large one was. I was careful not to scare Jazzy. Actually she was very interested in it and took the harness into her beak. I started playing this game I made up (a weird version of peek-a-boo I guess) last week where I move my hand far away from her and I say "What are you doing?" and then move it closer to her. She basically rolls on her side twisting her head and covering her face with one wing. Then reaches out for my hand and starts mouthing it. So I did this with the harness and she loved it.
To make an already long story a little shorter... I put the harness on her all the way with NO ISSUES at all. I decided to take her with me to get the mail. She was excited and scared at the same time. Making some crazy noises. I then took her out on the deck where she calmed down a little with the occasional noise. Total time outside was maybe 5 minutes. So when I came back in I realized I DID NOT think this through. Sure, the harness went on easily, but how would she react after being excited and scared? She was amazing! She stayed completely still while I took it off. No problems what so ever.
I was very proud of her. I would have taken pictures, but everything happened so quickly and I just didn't think about it. I will add some pics from our next outing. Hopefully tomorrow - not today. Too much chance of fireworks going off and scaring her.
