Its Metal Poisoning

Hey there Linky how are you doing my friend, hope you enjoyed the day off yesterday, spoiling Sterretjie. :D
How is my little :smile022: doing now? is she still sleeping so much?
Has she finished the med's yet, if not, is she with you at work, in order to continue giving her the med's?
Sorry so many questions, I just need to know

Thanks for the interest Ant.:D

There is still a lot of medicine in that bottle left, I suppose Dr Brett will tell me on Monday if I must carry on giving or not. I give her the meds in the morning and the evening and afterwords she gets some nuts to say sorry. She is really being a little

about all of this.

Oh I wish I could have her at work with me,:( but at least I am watching her on the cameras. She is mostly just sitting around - I suppose she is sleeping. She did eat a couple of times but has hardly showed any interest in her beloved box and I've put her self-baked bread in it? I suppose the sleeping is good for recovery thou.

I 'think' I may have found the wire that she chewed. I bought a treat that had two levels and she finished the top level first. The bottom level still had lots of goodies on so I left it for her. This sweetie was hanging on her swing that is tied to the roof - I cant reach there nor see properly. I asked Craig to take it down for me and I then saw that the part where the top sweetie was had wire that was twisted around the wire that held the toy together, it is thin wire and not noticeable unless if you look for it. :(

I am so aware of metal poisoning now. I make jewelery and there is always small, very small peices of wire and other metal parts around. Rosie throws a fit if she cant sit beside me when I am doing jewelery but during jewelery making she does not get out of her cage. Even after I clean up I sometimes find a tiny piece of metal.
You have taught us all a valuable lesson.

Now we should be inspecting all of our bird toys that are made by someone else. I am so sorry you and Sterretjie had to go through all this trauma. Now she is healing and will be her old self in no time.

Sterretjie is going for her checkup at 13:00, I am excited but I am also VERY worried. This whole weekends dropping consisted of only feces and urine - absolutely no white/urates. I am telling myself it is the medicine, I hope it is the medicine, I PRAY it is the medicine. :(

I am praying all is okay with Sterretjie, and she gets a clean bill of health.
Not sure about her droppings, sure Dr Brett will be able to assist you, and hopefully it's because of the med's.;)

Fingers crossed for you!!!! I hope all is well, and it is just the medication. You grown-ups are very lucky, my parents won't pay for vet bills, unless they think they are sick ( They treat them a bit like dogs, and don't believe in quarantine either, because they don't think that they hide the illnesses ), so I have all my money saved up for emergencies. I only have $220.

We are here, and listening for you.

The metal is still there. :( I asked him for the x-ray so that I can post a photo of it. It is the bright dot that I circled on the one photo.

She must carry on drinking the meds twice a day. I have to get her stomach going so he suggested that I must give her a half a teaspoon of the top layer of peanut butter an hour after the meds (the oily bit.) It is not good for your parrot so please dont give it as a treat. I must go and see him in 10 days time, that means she must still drink the meds for another 10 days, the poor child, she REALLY hates it.:(

What else, that is safe, causes 'diarrhea'? Maybe mashed bananas?

My little star will shine again soon. Sterretjie is a strong bird, to have pulled through this far. We are praying for her constantly.
Linky I just surfed the net now, came across a very informative link pertaining to metal poisoning in birds.

"Time heals all wounds". Has the metal moved at all since the last x ray? All you can do if follow doc. orders and spoil her even more. She is a lucky girl to have you as her mom.

Oh no. This is a terrible situation to go through. (I've been gone a week so I'm catching up). Sending positive thoughts and prayers to the both of you.

Be brave and strong. You don't want her to see you sad and crying. She wants to see you strong for her, so that she too, can try to be strong for you.

If you're not sure where she took the metal from, then from now on, just keep a very close eye on her whenever she's out. No more leaving her to play by herself.

Prayers and love being sent out to the both of you :)

You could try Watermelon...it makes my guys' poop so messy, I dont give it anymore. Maybe a diet of just fruit and veggies, for a few days...no pellets or seed?

I tried the peanut butter, she took one bite and thereafter refused. I tried on bread and even sprinkled her favorite nuts on, she just runs away.

I will buy some watermelon thanks Sharon.;)

Ant gave me a recipe that I am going to try today, THANK YOU!

Here is the recipe, they say it is good to give for just in case as well.;)

My Favorite "Chelation Recipe" - home-made pesto sauce (also known as "Poor Man's Chelation Therapy" ... Note: Also safe and good for birds suffering from heavy metal poisoning!

Ingredients:

  • Fresh Cilantro (2 cups - packed) - alternatively: Coriander or Chinese Parsley) - Cilantro Helps Flush Out Heavy Metals
    • Without the help of any chelation agents, cilantro was able to remove the mercury in two to three weeks. (Acupunct Electrother Res 96;21 (2): 133-60.) '
    • Eating cilantro increased urinary excretion of lead and aluminum.
    • When cilantro was used concurrently with antibiotics (bacterial issues) or natural anti-viral agents and/ or fatty acids like EPA with D.A., an infection could be eliminated for good. (Acupnct Electrother Res. 95:20 (3-4): 195-229.)
    • Note: cilantro pills are available -- but the active component in cilantro is easily destroyed during processing -- fresh herbs are always best. You can add them to your soups or salads, or garnish any dish.
    • Bird owners who are concerned about heavy metal toxicities may feed some of this pesto -- or simply fresh cilantro - to their birds to provide excellent nutritional support and naturally get rid of toxins that have already been absorbed
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 1/3 cup Brazil Nuts (selenium source)
  • 1/3 cup Pumpkin Seeds (zinc, magnesium)
  • 1/3 cup Sunflower Seeds (cysteine source)
  • 2/3 cup Flaxseed Oil (omega-3 fatty acids)
  • 4 tablespoons of lemon juice (vitamin C)
  • 2 teaspoons Dulse Powder (in the health food stores - usually where salts are)
  • (Bragg's Liquid Aminos - Optional - available at health food stores)
Put it all in the food processor, blend and ready to eat. Store in dark glass jars, if possible. It freezes well, so I purchase cilantro when in season and fill enough jars to last through the year. One holistic doctor stated that this recipe was able to cure one person suffering from high blood pressure due to mercury poisoning after only eating 2 teaspoons of this pesto daily for a week. So both for treatment and prevention -- all it takes is 2 teaspoons a day.

Thanks again Antoinette! :D

Thank you for all your support everybody, I think I would have gone crazy if it wasnt for you! ;)

She was sooo confused last night and this morning because we skipped the medicine! She started a habit this past month of hiding inside one of her boxes when it is medicine time and this morning she kept on peeking her head out to see why I am not coming. I am sure by this weekend she will be back to normal. ;)
