Chico - 13YO male Blue and Gold rescue
I haven't posted in quite a while but wanted to update everyone.

Tess is still Daddy's little girl and afraid of everything it seems. She's very skittish when Chico is close by but we are working on getting her to see that he wants to say hello and be friends... Not attack her. She now loves when I rub under both of her wings at the same time.

Chico... He has come a very long way! He is letting more and more down grow which is nice. Before he simply tolerated me but in the last six months he has steadily become more and more of a friendly and loving bird. The last two months have seen him really blossom. He loves giving hugs and cuddling up even to me and shows lots of affection. He is a rambunctious boy and loves playing on the floor where he has discovered the box of paper for starting fires.
He knows he's busted:

This is Sara: she is in a local bird store/rescue haven. She has an injured wing that healed but she'll never fly. She is VERY scared and gets aggressive. She has been at the store for over a year. I got the wild hair to start working with the girl (she is only around 3 years old).
My first visit took some trickery to get her to come out of the cage and then step up. I started with just putting my hand in the cage, and slowly got it close to her. Once I got her on my arm she continued to caw out in what I can only describe as a very scared cawing.
I went back today and she stepped right up but when I started a ladder step up routine she started her scared cawing. It takes a good 15 min of sitting with her before I can pet her. Any visible move of the hand has her scared. When I finally snuck my hand to her back then got to her neck she was calm and quite content as I preened her.
She's a beautiful girl but at $1800 for her and a stand I can't afford her... But if I can help her socialize to find a home I'm happy. :)

Here is a video ofSarah I took today. I've never heard a bird make this. Is she whimpering in fear?

Honestly I think the bites from my spectacled Amazon were worse pain wise. She would bite to cut, tear and cause pain and wouldn't let up...
At least the Macaw's give a quick (admitenly damaging) "F You" bite vs the extended knawing bite.

That's actually not a familiar noise to me.

Sounds more like this bird's warning noise than anything...

If you offer the back of your closed bent fist there's nothing for her to latch onto.

She can get a finger if there's a gap like that.

And I agree. Macaws generally just pinch. It hurts, but more often than not you don't bleed.

MY CAG ON THE OTHER HAND...

I have been working with Sara a couple times a week for the last few weeks. She steps up now for others aparently. She is still very nervouse. Here's a video of the noises she makes.

That is a strange sound. I've never heard it from either of my macs. Are there any birds in the store that make a similar sound perhaps?

Nope, just her and just when hands are around her outside the cage.

The store owner says Sarah used to be a very friendly and outgoing girl but the owners came in with her bleeding bad from her wing after flying into something. They got her stabilized and to a vet for surgery but she was never the same afterwards and always afraid. It makes me wonder.

She's a sweet girl though, it's well worth it working with her.
