Mark, without a picture at hand, it almost sounds as if the poor bird, Carlos, was pinioned (one sided) :(

THAT'S WHAT I'M THINKING TOO!!! That's why I asked the question.

It wasn't accidental AT ALL. Someone intentionally crippled this bird to make sure it couldn't fly, to save themselves the trouble of having to cut a few primary flight feathers every once in awhile.

Because proper grooming is such a hassle! I mean who wants to deal with that, right?! NOW, AN OTHERWISE PERFECTLY HEALTHY BIRD IS PERMANENTLY HANDICAPPED!!! AND I HAVE THE URGE TO JUST SLAP SOMEONE...

WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?! IDIOTS!!!

I think it was intentional as well, because when I found him on Craigslist she never mentioned once in the post that he was crippled, ever! When I went to meet him she brought him out of the cage, he acted like he didn't even want out. She told me as she was removing him from the cage that she sold the larger cage because she was short on cash, and that she bought him that much smaller cage. She placed him on the arm and he slid off, he couldn't even glide, that worried me but I went ahead and gave her the cash and bought the bird. Her little daughter approximately 5 years old told me while I was there that when the bird falls she picks him up. :'( So obviously it was something that has been there since him living there. The lady told me she bought him when he was a year old and she had him for 6 years, he is now 7. Anyway I took him home and he fell one time off the perch, he never got hurt thank God. I gave him a shower light misting because I notice he smelled like urine, the same urine smell from her home as she had other animals like cats and so forth. As I was showering him lightly I noticed at random times he would walk funny like one wing would dangle, I lifted him up and saw that one wing had a chunk missing compared to the other one. The next day I took him to the vet and the doctor said that he was missing what would be equivalent to the wrist down on a human arm, his arm is pretty much almost completely gone. The doctor said he will never fly again... I was shocked, utterly appalled, I know I never did that to him, I am not saying she did, but the doctor said he does not believe he was born that way, he believes the arm was removed but he does not know how it was removed.

PS. I fixed and lowered all perches to accommodate him, I even bought him a rope to safely cross from one perch to the other. I am making strides to make sure he has the best life possible. Thankfully he is healthy other than missing an arm, he cannot even raise that wing. He has looked at me and tried to fly as he shimmies, but again he can't even raise it to fly and that pains me deeply... I am angered and hurt that I was never told, if only she would have told me I could have better accommodated him sooner.
