Hello Everyone,

I am new to forums so this one is my first. I do not own a bird however I do pay for a bird that dislikes me immensely.

No doubt all forum members will know the young man I am talking about his name is Fargo.

I would love to be able to cuddle him like my daughter does however he will not have a bar of me, so I just really am the money giver to Fargo and buy him all his needs.

He also destroys my house (well the master bedroom that he dwells in) even though he has many toys, ropes etc however he likes my walls better to play with.

Regards
Ann-Jane

Anne-Jane and welcome to the forum:)

All Our Members have got to know Fargo very well, as well as tab:)

Sorry to hear that fargo does not like you and destroys many things in your Home:(

Maybe, in time you will be able to gain Fargo's trust!

Hi Ann-Jane! SO nice to "meet" you! It's awesome that you joined. :)

Tab & Fargo are our favorite and famous couple. They are SO perfect together.

I wouldn't say that Fargo doesn't like you....he just has to get to know you better. ;)

IMO, the best approach is have Tab leave the room completely while you try to interact with him, it works for me and my B&G.

Yup, those beaks can do quite some damage, unfortunately. :(

Again, WELCOME!!! :D

Hi And welcome!
Here we all were thinking Fargo was such a little angel...Tab has grosely misinformed us! :) (tut tut)
Hopefully he will come around to you, though i'm afraid he wont lose any sleep over who it is that pays for his needs... maybe you can have Tab involve you into trick training him? the only thing you can do is spend time with him in a way that he allows so he will eventually regard you as part of his flock.
all the best of luck! :)

Thank you all for your lovely welcomes. I do laugh at Tab who thinks Fargo is an angel, and yes I do believe she has grossly misinformed you all about the true Fargo.

He is a very lovely bird and I would love to interact with him like Tab does, however I am also a bit scared of his big beak.

I think I should maybe start with a small bird or just stay with my little Maltese/Shiztu Wesley who is also scared of Fargo.

Hi fargos mum

Theres no reason why you wont be able to pat fargo with sime touch training, tab tells me he will do tricks for you and stepup but wont let you pat him.

Over weekends try and spend a bit of time touch training him and you should be ok.

Hope it helps

Peter

Yay Ann you joined the forum! That's awesome!
I think you should get a bird for yourself aswell!! :p

it's sort of similar with Bandit and Pip at our home. Bandit puts up with pretty much anything i want to have her do, but when my other half tries, blood and tears flow... but he's very much at ease handeling Pippen. I do believe your fear is one of the main contributors to Fargo's reaction, sort of like a dog sensing fear, he senses your unease and it puts him on edge. it may sound silly, but try look at it from his point of view, and think about how you would like to be approached if you were him; hands in plain sight (never go in from above or behind him) soft soothing voice, no sudden movements, no intent staring (blink your eyes a lot, it will tell him that you're not a predator preying on him), and of course treats - lots and lots and lots of treats, so he starts associating you with goodies. :)

It is all a lie guys!!!
Look, this was taken 2 days ago..

Tabitha Jane Brown you are a sinister as Fargo, it took you five attempts to get this photo, you had to put him on my arm and then try and take the photo quickly before he flew off...

The truth will be revealed in time...

I was also trying to work and all he was doing was talking because he heard someone on the phone talking...a little tricky to have a conversation with Fargo saying "Hello, Hello,, Hello...."

Thank you for all the advice his beak does scare me and when he is placed on my arm I am tense waiting for him to peck at me....

IfI did not work fulltime Brodie I would have my own bird, but it would not be fair to have him/her sitting in a cage all day...

Lupe would be able to relate to you very well Ann-Jane. She wants to interact with Valentino more but he does the macaw growl and nips her. Like you she is at work all day while I am home with Valentino.

I am the one that trains Valentino, hand feeds him, cleans his cage and tree, takes a shower with him and we cuddle in the evening while watching TV. Lupe wants to interact with Valentino more but he clearly prefers me.

We have found that Lupe can interact with Valentino a lot better when I am not in the room. Sunday morning while I was still upstairs Lupe takes Valentino out of his cage and they have their time together. I will be very very quiet so he does not hear me and will stay with her but once he hears me moving about or my voice all bets are off and he will fly upstairs to find me. I happen to of been doing my morning business when in flies Valentino and lands on my lap. LOL

When Tab is not present work with Fargo little by little. After time both your comfort levels will improve and eventually you will be able to interact with him on a physical level more. Be consistent and give him lots of treats. LOL

Here is a picture of Lupe with Valentino.
