Introducing Julio the Noble macaw

It is spring and could be somewhat hormonal. I don't know about hormones mellowing, Bosley is 35 and he is still exhibiting behaviours.
Agression I would think is very normal, he is new and needs to get comfortable in his surroundings. When I first brought Bosley home he slammed his bars for the first 4 day if anyone came to close. On the 4th day he decided I was OK, but nobody else.
He still postures sometimes if hubby get too close to his cage 7 months later.

Huge congrats noble I am so glad to see hm in his new home! He will do amazing... I'll tell you what his feathers look like my babygirla and hers are coming back, I thought more was ruined with a bird looking like that, but you'd be surprised what is still viable follicles:).

Thanks JT. It will be a long road but one we will be taking together. I am kind of frustrated I can't get him into the vet until the 24th but I think that might be a blessing in disguise since right now I am kind of afraid of the little naked Noble macaw.

I think he is displaying hormonal behavior because I have had a Noble macaw before and recognize the signs. Julio has settled in quite quickly and really enjoys interacting with us. I also take in account he has been uprooted and is unsure of us. The foster mom did describe his behavior to me and he is displaying what she has described already in our home. I think it is a combination of new environment being uprooted and hormones. We really need to let him settle in and get use to us. It will take time for him to realize he is here forever and not temporary.

I need to get over my fear of getting bit. Although I fully expect to be bitten and am okay with it I am still a baby when it comes to actually getting bit. Julio has caused real damage on Lupe's finger where she did have to have it looked at and xrayed. The bone is okay but he did damage her ligament and she has a huge bruise and finger is badly swollen. Because of my compermised immune system it takes me so long to heal from wounds. When Valentino scratches me or bruises me it takes me twice as long to heal.

So far I have not attempted to take him out of his cage. Julio flirts with me so badly he gets worked up. I try so hard NOT to work him up but with ANY interaction on my part sends him into overload. *sigh*. I am giving him space right now and establishing a schedule for him.

  OUCH!!!! Poor Lupe! I hope Julio left no permanent damage.

Please be extra careful.

Julio sounds a lot like my harlequin besides the fact of being plucked if you'd like I could describe what I went through with her at some time... Although the fact that she got bit by a mini macaw and had to go to the doctors makes me wonder how many James I've been bit by large macaws and cockatoos and probably should have seen a doctor lol!

Koko my mini took the top of my thumb off, I literally looked at my mother and said I should probably leave that on huh? And she said ummm yea... And then like two weeks later I ripped the dead off and if I put my finger to the table you could see a divet out of my finger and a large one at that lol... O well all in a days work;)

I'm sorry, but I really want to know what he does that indicates hormonal behavior in a male of his species. I like to learn!

I have always been told that the smaller the beak the worse it hurts, and from that I can say in my experience has been true. I've been nailed good by Macaws, and it hurt like heck, but man the dang mini macaws and Caiques are ruff. My Tiel bites are worse in my opinion. In my experience it seems the smaller guys go for blood, and to hurt you while to larger birds go to warn, and scare you and will only try to hurt you as a last resort. I have only had one Macaw straight out attack me, and that was a royal pain in the butt 6 month old at my breeders store the other day. Me and the jerk battled, and I walked away with some nice marks but the brat is nice to me, my wife, and Phoenix now. Man I am terrified to even handle a Conure after having several different ones go at me.
