Green Cheek Conure
Hi all. I have a 6 year old green cheek conure. I have had him for 2 years. He came to me on an all seed diet. I have, at my veterinarians advice, switched him to a pellet diet, supplemented with some seed/pellet balls. I would like him to eat fruits and veggies, but he is NOT interested. The only "people" food he is interested in are fortune cookies. I give him a small piece once in awhile as a treat. He came to me with this love of fortune cookies. This is not something I started giving him. To say he is obsessed with them would be an understatement.
I have read a few threads about removing his food at night, introduce new foods in the morning, etc. I have already tried this. He throws everything he does not like to the floor of his cage. The only items I have successfully introduced to him is all natural peanut butter (Invery small amt) and pomegranate seeds. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

This worked for me...
I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. 30-ish years ago, Harrison's was still a small company. My vet was actually able to talk to Dr. Harrison about my bird's species and status, and they decided on the High Potency. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff. My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day.
Good for you, for taking on the diet issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
