My Indian ringnecks just laid three eggs. This is their first clutch. The male is a double factor violet and the female is a turquoise harlequin. I can’t wait to see what colors the babies will be. Any ideas? I’m going to candle the eggs next week. 😁

All of them will be single factor violet but I don't know the genetics of harlequin, so I'm not sure how it works exactly.

I just read that the pied (harlequin) mutation IRNs isn't well understood. Possibly recessive, possibly partially dominant. There may be two types of pied as there are with budgies- dominant pied and recessive pied. Does your pied female have dark "baby eyes" or normal eyes? Does she have a red lower beak or is it dark? Both of these characteristics indicate that she's recessive pied. If they all hatch and mature you'll know more.

If it's recessive and the male isn't carrying the pied gene the babies will not look pied. If the male carries the pied gene half the babies will appear pied and half normal

If it's partially dominant, the babies could be pied.

Oh wow how interesting. I’ll have to check my female and see.

I think the babies will be violet but might have other colors from the mom 😆

That means the babies will not be green which is dominant to blue. Blue parents can't have green babies because it's recessive. I'm sure the babies will be gorgeous whatever color mutations they show!

Any chance of a pic of mum and dad (the breeding pair IRN). I’m so curious, congratulations on your first clutch! 😊

They are super pretty birds. I think the pictures don’t look as nice as real life 😆

Wow! They're gorgeous, and they're having gorgeous babies!
You must tell me what the reflective background is. It looks like they're in a grow tent. I have a grow tent that I start seedlings in for my garden.

I don't think the female is recessive pied based on the dark lower beak and the normal eyes. R. pieds have red lower beaks and solid dark baby eyes as adults. Usually pale pink feet, too. She looks like part green and part blue. Not sure what mutation that is. It could be a combination of mutations.
