Hello....

I have a pr of greenwing macaws that have been together for many years and are bonded, both are original imports from approx 8/9 years ago that have lived in an outside aviary since.

recently one became ill very quickly and as a result both were brought indoors, only brought both in as I figured splitting them may cause the poorly bird more distress.

since bringing them in my macaw has made a full recovery, but the weather has gone very cold outside and for the last 6 weeks these 2 have enjoyed the warmth inside..

now they have a very large cage but I believe bigger would be better.

niether of my macaws are tame but they are settled and dont mind people being near them, one of them will take food from your fingers.

I also have a pr of marron bellied conures and a pr of senegal parrots living in my living room.

My question is....

Do you think I would be safe to allow my macaws out of the cage for some daily exercise, and if yes would they go back in...

also if yes, if they decided to take root on top of one of my other cages, would they kill the occupants if they were to investigate each other...

hope someone could advise as the macaws wont be going back out till next spring and I hate seeing them stuck in a cage :(

Honestly I just wouldn't take the risk. I think a better idea would be to give them a few hours out in the aviary for some exercise. If that is not possible i would put the other birds in another room before i let the macaws out. You will have to have a net handy & a plan B in place just in case it goes pear shaped.

Thanks pedro, your reply is kind of what I expected to hear, there is no way I can put them into the outside avairy on a regular basis as it will just freak them out too much, trying to keep them occupied with new toys every week but nothing like a chance to have a good potter about.

but cheers for the reply, will give it some more thought...
