That kind of petting can be very sexual to a bird. Your best bet is to stick to his head, so he doesn't become hormonal and take a finger from you!

Petting his head and under his wings are okay. Try not to pet down his back, that most definitely can stimulate him. To pet under his wings, move slow and be cautious, take your hand and just slid it under his wing. If he backs away pull your hand back. If you move too fast your more likely to get a faster reaction than if you move slowly. He'll let you know if hes uneasy about it. Just back off if he moves away from you. More than likely he'll let you pet him there if hes already comfortable with you petting his back and head. Be confident as well, if your too timid when you approach him about this he will sense it. If your nervous then he will also be nervous (not something you want).
