I love my parrot so much

This is going to be kind of a random and disjointed post so I apologize.

I just wanted to express how much I love my little buddy. I feel that a lot of people don’t understand parrots as pets, and think they can’t form emotional connections.

So, unfortunately, I lost someone very dear to me yesterday. A relative who’s been here for me my entire life. One of the few people I wanted to attend my wedding some day. Naturally, I’ve been crying on and off.

I try not to be upset in front of Nico because I don’t want to upset or confuse him, but today I couldn’t help it. I had a crying fit while we were sitting together, him perched on my hand. This little bird immediately stopped being sleepy and came over and groomed me gently and licked my tears away. Once he was done he cuddled close to my face until I stopped crying.

This isn’t the first time, and he’s not the only parrot I’ve had who’s done this. My late budgie did too.It’s hard to believe people think they don’t understand to some extent. I’m really struggling right now but I know I’ve got my little guy to lean on, always.

My sincere condolences.
I confess that I'm not a bird person, really, but my missus is one, 100%, and her lifetime companion is her ancient Patagonian. They share emotions and experiences I will never understand. I try to be happy for them, and not jealous. It's hard sometimes!

Birds are the best! My macaw sits quietly on the bed next to me for hours on end when I am sick. They just know when things are not right with their human companions.

Sorry for your loss. Maybe some parrots are this sensitive. When I'm sick or upset, Salty says 'What are you complaining about? I have to sleep in a cage every night! '. Mr. Sensitive he is not.

What a sweet bird you have! Nothing can bring your loved one back but it's nice that your feathered child is comforting you in your time of grief.
Birds are more sensitive than people think. When one of my budgies lay dying in my husband's hands, my BFF budgie Rocky flew over and sat on his shoulder and watched quietly, leaning forward and cocking her head to see clearly that he was crying as he stroked the dying budgie's feathers.
