- Ava(peach faced lovebird) and my very first bird
Leroy (black headed caique) my little moody bird
Dusty (hahns macaw) my clown
Hey ladies and gents....
I haven't been here to long yet...and I realized that I never introduced you to my flock.....I am owned by three birds....
My very first bird was Ava (peach faced lovebird) she has taught me so much..I use to be terrified of birds and my brother in law was breeding lovebirds....ava was sickly and almost died...one of her legs wasn't right so she wasn't sellable....I let my husband talk me into getting her...and am I ever glad I did...she may not have been sellable but she sure is lovable...
She will be four in October and her leg healed up just fine....she is our little DIVA...snap, snap...when she rings her bells, someone better listen. LOL
A year later...along came Leroy (black headed caique) I fell in love with caiques after seeing a video on youtube...I immediately started to study all I could about them, needless to say there wasn't much out there...just the usually "cookie cutter" books you get at a pet store and some stuff on the web...all said that this species was "hands off" during hormone season...LOL, did they ever leave out a bunch of stuff....like jekyl/hyde behavior, extreme mood swings.....and the list goes on....Leroy is, well, Leroy...he is moody and difficult and fun and crazy and lovable all in the same bird and I have learned to read him very well....I can handle his mood swings and we get along fine now...I tease and call him lucifer when he is having a bad day.....but hey...I have my lucifer days too...
Last but not least is my Dusty (hahns macaw) he is a clown....he was flown in from Texas when I got him and he is wonderful...we are working on him letting me pet him more....he does not like to be touched...he likes to be on me all the time and cuddle under a blanket but it has to be on his terms...he still will try to bite when I try to scratch him but I continue to work with him on that. He is so very talkative and makes me laugh every day....
So there you have it...our happy little flock.
