Parrots
5 Congo African Greys, 2 linneolated Parakeets,
But have found another that I really really want. Can anyone tell me the differences between the Lilac Crowned Amazon that I have and a Panama? I love my Oliver, but always wanted a Panama. Any differences in personalities, loudness, general info? Thanks!

If you have the time money and desire I see no reason why you can't have both. I know of very few people who only have one bird.

Oops just looked at your profile and it appears you already have mbs so what's one more?

Thekarens, you are so right! Most of us bird lovers do have more than one! I have always heard how wonderful the Panamas are, and I know every bird is an individual, but was just wanting some insight as to what the Panamas are like compared to the Lilacs.... Ugh... I can't seem to talk myself out of it!

Hopefully some of the zon folks will speak up soon. I just like to be an enabler ;-)

panama Amazons ??? hands down the #1 companion parrot, But that's my opinion. I have many zons , i have my choice if i want another pet this late in my life. The only real choices for me? Blue Mutation Nape or a Pan, no other choices. IMO never pass up chance at having a Pan, especially a hen. They are the sweetest , best talking ,bird friendly, independent, companion parrot there is. Of course i'd never get a bird that i didn't "click" with.

PS after you get a panama , you'll realize what a pain in the fanny all the other birds are, LOL.

Of course each bird is an individual, but as smaller zons, both the lilac crowned and panamas are known for being more calm than some of the bigger guys:)

I have 7 cockatiels who have no interest in producing more. That's now Ok as I have a LCA that is a wonderful companion, but of course, demanding. I have been offered a Congo African Gray for free and that was always my most favorite parrot. After a whole day of deliberation, I asked myself, "How much time do you devote to ChuChu?" Do you really want to divide that time in half?" So I helped to find a forever home for the Gray and took ChuChu out to lunch. Each must answer that question for themselves.

One of the best companion parrots out there, in my opinion. Less exciteable than most hot 3's, but just as "show-ey" as any of them.

Thanks for all your input, and Henpecked-I think I am going to go with a Panama hen, I am so excited! This will be my last bird, I really wasn't looking, but came across this one. Sounds like its a good choice! ; )

What Kiwibird said. We have a DYH and an OWA. The OWA is generally more mild-mannered and easily handled by most folks, and the DYH is way more rambunctious.

Please share photos of your new bird when you get her:)

ImmunoGoblin- The big ol' DYHs, BFAs and YNA's are known as the "hot 3" and are the guilty parties that give all zons their "feisty reputation" (even though the smaller guys and those gentle giant mealies tend to be real sweethearts and a lot calmer). You very rarely hear of smaller amazons causing anyone any kind of trouble;)
