Just wanted to update and say birds and I are heading to bed. We still have power. My mother and I were able to watch the show "Revolution" with only minimal interruptions. It wasn't on the regular channel because of the news. It is quite windy here with some gusts that have made the house creek and groan. We deal with this kind of wind during blizzards and nasty thunderstorms so I'm used to the house groaning. I know a lot of places got their butts kicked and watching what was happening in New York City was scary. I hope for the best for every one effected by Sandy. I'll hopefully have power throughout the night and into tomorrow.

Silly question, but can't you guys flush the toilet when there is no power!! :O That sucks!! We get blackouts a lot but toilet still flushes lol! :(
I am feeling sick for you all, checking the news and stuff . I have already heard of a couple of deaths :( Sad!!!

I really, really hope everyone is okay!
Heard about the hurricane all day today on the news, in the paper etc, and I'm all the way in Melbourne, Australia!
I couldn't imagine having to go through such weather! And I don't think any of my animals would cope too well either.
We get the bush fires over here pretty bad in the summer time though.. Not to far away.
But as I said I hope your all safe and well, and your birds and other pets too!
Good luck everyone and stay safe.

I'm here... :D We lost power a few times, and I don't know how or why, but it came back fast each time. I'm definitely greatful for that.

KC, those folks who have well water cannot flush toilets during power outages becasue the well pump won't work during an outage. We have city water, so our water isn't affected during power outages.

In total 2.2 million people in Jersey alone are without power. :'(

The photos on TV last night were quite disturbing and VERY sad.

I'll let you all know more when the sun comes up :)

Ahhhh makes sense! Its been very sad to hear about, glad you do have power still though! :(

I'm ok, my house is ok, the birds are ok. We kept power all night. It flickered a lot. We were able to watch transformers blow. We were looking out our backdoor and would see huge flashes of purple and orange. Every time we saw that the power would go out and come back on. It was quite scary for awhile.

If you have well water you can't flush it. You have to fill up buckets or tubs with water to manually flush. We have well water in my neighborhood. Most of my town has city water.

Sorry for not posting, yesterday they're was absolutely no electricity a, it stopped at lunch and it just came back on today an hour ago. We only had 2 candles and a flash light. Pepsi and sprite didn't even care. Since it gets dark at 6 Pepsi and sprite went to sleep early, in the morning when I took of the blanket they were a time bomb ! They just exploded and flew all over the place chirping and screeching bloody murder! I was stuiped on how I didn't know how they will channel all that energy from a long sleep. They still are exploding .nothing happened to my house except a giant tree branch in our backyard. We were very lucky, all of our neighbors had crashed trees, missing shingles and broken cars
