My mentor and friend has passed away. What a loss to the parrot community. If you haven't visited, check out voren.com .

Oh my gosh, Captain! I'm in shock! I am so sorry for your loss, I know how close you were. :( An ENORMOUS loss to the parrot community indeed. :(

I met Howard many, many years ago... (like 10-ish!!) he was an old timer, and one of the most knowledgable (albeit opinionated and cantankerous) bird people who ever lived. Good person to sit down and "talk story" with...

Rachel had one of his blue mutation yellow napes.

He probably forgot more about large parrots than you or I ever knew about them... He was THAT good!

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was the one who bred those beautiful nape mutations wasn't he? A loos to the avian and amazon-owners community.

YEP.

Rachel had one of them.

Hope you do not mind me posting this. It has shown up about a dozen times on my FP wall in the last 10 min

He developed hatching and breeding techniques now used worldwide.
He authored several trade books and recently published a memoir. In his early years he traveled the world collecting common species as well as mutations and rare species to breed on his farm.
He enjoyed the country lifestyle loved freshwater fishing in his spare time and became involved in local politics. He loved and cherished his children and was very proud of the adults they became and all of their successes and achievements, including two wonderful grandchildren.

Wow, he was a legend... I actually just finished reading one of his hand feeding books... So sorry for your loss...

I am so sorry for your loss, as well as the loss to the parrot world. Just imagine how many of his feathered friends were waiting to greet him.

Anyone who enjoys living with a companion parrot in the US today has a lot to thank him for. I am so sorry to hear of your personal loss; friends can never be replaced.

Wow. Loss of a real pioneer in Psittaculture. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend Richard.
