How strange!

Just joining in the fun! :D And feels like drawing right now! So I just drew Fargo! :D I'm sorry that the colour is very bad, I only had a pencil, blue, green and a yellow (it suppose to be gold), I'll do a better one tomorrow when I have all of my colour pencils. :)

You may have stumbled across a galah creche :D A bunch of young galahs which hang out together once they fledge and before the breeding season is over and parents are ready to move on. Maybe their minders were checking you out to make sure you weren't going to eat any of their unruly babies LOL

There was a galah at my daughters school who was very curious especially when I walked by he would fly down to the lower head height branches and show off a leaf or stick LOL I was sad when he seemed to have moved on.

My thoughts on your mystery bird were most likely a pale headed rosella

maaaaaybe a superb parrot :)

Or unlikely but still possible... maybe a yellow king parrot

KingParrots014.jpg

None of them are normally seen interacting with galahs though, other than sharing a food or water source :)

One possibility comes to mind ...though if its true you saw something rarer than a mutation...
The small cockatoos (galahs, major mitchells and corellas) have been known to drive out current nest occupants (other small cockatoos and medium sized aussie parrots) seemingly unaware or otherwise not at all bothered by current eggs of another species in the nest. They often happily raise any surviving chicks as their own. Its been regularly observed with major mitchells, galahs and corellas which is how they explain hybridisation of those species in the wild. Babies raised by the foster species learn their foster parents mannerisms and contact call. Their theory is these birds are happy to go on and pair with either their own species or the foster species. Which doesn't explain why their partner is happy to pair with them :p I personally think all small cockatoos are just free loving hippies!

Could a galah raise a rosella? Possible, but not probable... but its a cute possibility. ^_^

My corella learnt the contact call of the black cockatoo he lived next to while being handreared. It would have been nice to know this prior to his purchase... because I thought I would get a corella with a lovely quavering contact call and various peeps and coos. But I now have a corella with a black cockatoo contact call. And very unhappy neighbours. Yay for me :( Keep your fingers crossed that they don't contact council, or that he discovers his inner corella soon!!

Ok i am absolutely TERRIBLE at drawing :p
but here is a picture i just drew of the colouring haha

He had a full yellow head, then the body and tail exactly like a cockatiel, but was reddy underneath!

I might go bird watching this afternoon and see if i can find it again!!

I wish, Ike got all my old pics (non-digital) and trust me, I had a TON, definitely the one thing Ike got that I'll never recover. :(

All my old animal pics, all my cabinetry/woodwork from my carpenter days, boats, childhood, etc....the list is long.

I just had a VERY long, hard look at your picture. I mean HOW HARD can it be to identify an Aussie parrot with only 3 toes on each foot? :54:

As for Fargo learning to mimic the Corellas. Perhaps YOU can teach him? :D

Hahahaahahahah! :52: Woops! :54: Thats how i got taught as a kid!!! 3 little sticks for legs...

Noo! I was meaning thingamagigs corellas needs to learn how to call like a corella ;)

Fargo will probably learn how to call like a galah soon though, they are always flying by talking to him, he always gets this panicked look on his face! They are problem teasing him :09:

She forgot the toes, and only I got a nose! XD
