Hello!

I will be adopting a 6 year old Alexandrine this week. According to her current owner, she's always been healthy but I will take her to get checked when she comes to live with me. My question is, how soon should I take her after the move? Should I wait until she's a bit more settled and I can get her in and out of her carrier ok?
Also, I've found a lot of different information on how often a healthy bird should have a check up by an Avian Vet so I'm wondering how often you guys take your birds for check ups??

I would say once you can comfortably get her in and out of the carrier then you shoul take her in. But it should be within a week of getting her.
And you should take your birds for and annual check up at least once a year, more obviously if you notice something wrong.

We go once a month for nail trims, and the occasional beak trim, but definitely once a year for a check-up. Sooner if we suspect something is wrong.

It is recommended by many avian vets and others to take your bird to the vet for yearly wellness exams. This is one of the many responsibilities we take on with our birds. They can look very healthy, play and eat well and still have some abnormalities that show up in droppings or blood testing.
