If you were part of my last question then you know about 4 days ago I brought home my new 5 month old Timneh African Grey. When i frist brought her home it was at nightime around 7-9 pm. That was around the time the bird store gave them the most attention because they were closed and all the employees would go play with them. Thats when my new baby is the most active and silly. The first day he barley ate and when I went near the cage he would just sit there and shiver. thats what i expected because he doesnt know where he is. He was confused. The 2nd day he was a bit better and came out slowly to play. The 3rd day which was yesturday; He was much more comfortable. He was eating perfectly, he was playing with his toys and he didnt get as scared when we when near his cage and talked to him. Then i had him out and boy was he hyper. I never had such a hyper bird. It was too cute. He stil gets nervous around me though and i wanted to know around when will he fully settle into his new home. Today he was super happy in his cage. When no one is watching, he goes on this ring and flaps his wings while swinging himself. He has been doing it all day. It is very cute. but again when my other family members walk by he gets scared. But not with me. Also i still dont have a name. Haha. Some names i like are
-Charlie
-Kazoo
-Tom
-Ziggy
and any name you have please tell me them!:grey:

It really depends on the bird itself. From the way you describe how he has acted in just a few days, I don't see it taking very long for him to get comfortable with you. Just remember to spend a good amount of time with him per day even if it is just talking to him. I used to read my school books out loud sitting next to his cage. That way I could get my homework done and spend time with my bird. It sounds like he is really liking his new surroundings and, the most important part, that you are excited to have him. Keep with it and it will happen in no time.

Like Davinchi says, it depends on the bird! Some birds will be like, ok this is my home now and make the most of it from day one. Some birds can take days, months, up to a year to really be comfortable. With all my birds, I was able to hold them all from day one. BUT certain ones took some training and letting them get used to us. JoJo my male ekkie was very very shy to begin with and I think he was abused at one point cause he freaks out big time. But now he's a cuddle bug but any sudden movement from anything will scare him. But he usually huddle close to me now days. He used to be a closet talker and now he talks infront of us. That took him about 6 months or so to do. I got him trained in one week and got the shyness out of him in about a month. As you can see I have a lot of birds listed in my profile, different bird requires different training. I don't think yours would take that long if he's already making all that progress on his own.

some get adjusted in few days and some takes time upto years. depends on how much time you spend with them and purly depends on how much they want you to control there life

i have two CAG, one of the them is quite friendly. from day second she was taking food from my wife's hand and after two months she is quite happy, whistles and play. on a transition of pelleted food from fatty sunflower seeds. loves eating apple, vegetables and hates eating pellets (trying different brands now)

on other hand jackie is hard to mold he don't like to take food from hand from day one till now. always get to higher perch when someone approaches his cage, even make screeching noises when someone is near his cage. he dont like to anything other than sunflower seeds. (i tired and trying to change his diet)

they are of almost same age and still a huge difference in their behaviors towards us.

Thanks! He is settling in quite quickly actually! He loves to snuggle in me and my moms neck, mostly mine. He also is starting to step upon my hand without hitting me with his beak. He try to pretend to bit you but instead he wacks you with his beak. He only bit me once thinking my hand was a carrot. haha. I didnt mind. My GCC bites so much like crazy and all birds bite just the Timneh is a larger bird with a larger beak. Also if he is on his cage and you show him your hand he will put his head down for you to scratch his neck.

Just remember too that a lot of times they are not actually biting you. They like to use their beaks as a hand to move and test things out. Maybe he is just making sure your finger is solid enough to stand on. When my CAG doesn't want me to touch him he will grab my finger in his beak and push it away. He never bites hard, just enough to get a grip on it and let me know to stop. I guess he has me trained well...lol
