How Cold is it?

Only 64 indoors? I couldn't take it that cold. I'm a year round 70 degree type and I don't care what it costs. I can live without a lot of luxuries and things but comfort isn't one of them!
It’s a degree or two warmer near the birds. That monitor is in a corner of the living room next to two windows and the fireplace (that’s never used). Always a little colder there.
If I heated the house to 70 degrees F it would cost me over $200. Dollars a month.

I'm lucky that I'm in an apartment with steam heat. The down side is that when it's a warm day, we cook in the winter because there's no way to turn the steam off! The birds seem to like it tho...

Would it really cost an additional $200 a month for two or three more degrees? You must have a huge or very inefficient house! In the summer I also keep it at 70 even when it's in the 90s out. I just can't sleep in a warm room. It does help that my entire house, all 900 sf, is spray foam insulated, so it retains its temperature very well.

I can be pretty frugal with things I don't feel like I need. We don't evrn own a TV because we got sick of paying $250 a month to Spectrum when we never turned it on. Our birds are much more entertaining than that big mind numbing screen (we have our little mind numbing screens when we really want that kind of thing)! I'd rather spend that money on climate control.

My comfort temp is indoor minimum of 72°. I prefer 82° and that's easy here! Here it's simply hot. Humidity comes when winds blow up from gulf. I don't know when or why I turned into a cold wimp. I remember swimming in the winter w ice formed in corners of pool room ceiling, walking home w went hair. Back then it was fun to not wear a hat. My sibs and I would have a contest for who had the most ice in our hair. No complaints back then.

Right now 3:30 am it’s 24 degrees F.
Yesterday it took till 9:00 am for the outside temp to get above freezing.

The west coast isn’t affected so much by this polar vortex but it’s still colder than I like.

I keep the inside temp set around 65-68 degrees F.
I have tried to prepare for loss of electricity and have battery/solar backup but using electricity to heat doesn’t work. I can use the batteries to run my HVAC so long as we have natural gas.
If I loose both gas and electric I have a Mr buddy big buddy propane heater as a last resort.

Plus most of my birds have a bird heater in the cage and they don’t use much power.
Whats a bird cage heater and where do I get one? I can't have Princess rescue Amy birb getting cold and hating me. (She seems like the type that may hate me if the window shade is somehow off kilter from where she wants the sun positioned in the sky and she is not afraid to let me know it) I have oil heat but at night in CT it gets bitter this time of year and we have temps dropping to -2 sometimes. Might be a good idea to have it.

This is what I use. There are other types out there.
