As seen here, but we are adding another flock member (no, he/she will NOT be kept in that blue cage, or the same cage as cricket)

Updates soon incoming :D

Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh, multiple bird syndrome (MBS) strikes again!! Looking forward to meeting your new arrival soon :)

What are you getting? How's Cricket? Is she tamed completely now? I have a Lutino English Budgie now named Elan. See her picture in the March POTM contest.

Unfortunately, she is still not super tameā€” just not a people-bird. She will step-up and do tricks, and she will occasionally play with my hair, but she generally isnā€™t the most tame. Cricket is doing very well, got a beak trim, and was adored by the vets, and deemed the feistiest budgie theyā€™ve seen xD

I got a 2nd budgie, because one is never enough

He was cleared by a vet, so he was introduced into the room the same day we got him

Meet Gabriel! He is a pied blue, from what I can tell. Heā€™s just a baby, and was very recently got into the store. Employee said, ā€œyeah, heā€™s just a baby, which is goodā€¦ hasnā€™t had the time to get mean yet, from people banging on the glass,ā€ which makes me so mad and disappointed that people (teenagers, specifically) do that. But I digress, lol I named him Gabriel, because I canā€™t like anything normallyā€” he was named after Gabriel from The Mandela Catalogue

Probably the LEAST fitting name for him, given that Gabriel (tmc) is literally the incarnate of Satan, and is trying to wipe out humanityā€¦ and Gabriel (bird) literally doesnā€™t even bite (he never once bit the employee who caught him,) soā€¦ eh..? xD

Cricket doesnā€™t like people very much, but for a non-people-bird, sheā€™s been doing very well, showing gabe that I am not a big scary evil personā€” she even ate some cheese with Rico and I, while I ate tacos! Sheā€™s never gotten that close to me, willingly/without a treat bribe, let alone stay for a few minutes and NOT fly away with the slightest eye contact (I get it girl, I donā€™t like being looked at either)

This was her on my bed, after eating cheese with Rico and I.

I guess she got the memo, and sheā€™s carrying šŸ˜ Gabriel is shy, but he isnā€™t exactly fearful? At least, heā€™s gotten a tad more comfortable, after just observing the ways Rico and Crick interact with me.

I like to think ā€œmonkey see, monkey do,ā€ is a very common thing amongst parrotsā€” they ARE flock animals, and they tend to follow the flock, right? Example; I eat something, showing Rico that it is food (which if heā€™s out, there is no stopping this monster from fighting tooth and nail for a bite,) and if allowed, he will have some. Rico and I eating the food shows cricket the food is safe, and so on and so forth. So, trying the monkey see, monkey do tactic in the beginning stages of taming, is what Iā€™m doing, in hopes it smooths the taming process a little

Anyway, here is the little baby birb (his footā€™s fine, this was js before he nibbled it) we are going to bed now, adios, and diabolical night/day

Such a cutie! In the past I have been tempted to get another bird. So far I have overcome it. Good luck with your new flock member.

Baby Gabe is adorable! You should have him finger tame in no time. The birds see birds do thing really is true, at least with budgies. I got one of my budgies, Baja, from a casual breeder last year when he was about 8 weeks old. He wasn't tame but watching the tame budgies constantly flying to us convinced him that we were safe and now he's as tame as they are.

OMG... Baby Gabriel looks like my Buzzsaw! Buzzsaw wasn't tame, but would fly to me and play in my hair when I was at the computer. She died almost 20 years ago at 8 years old. She is missed.

lol been there before...we can always rationalize it to ourselves. Congrats!

Heā€™s already taking millet through the bars, he stretches when I approach the bars, and he doesnā€™t really skitter away when I approach him. Heā€™s not as fearful as Ice, Tea, or Cricket have been on their first days here, and he isnā€™t angry and aggressive like Rico was on day one (although, heā€™s a cockatiel, so probably not a fantastic idea to compare the two behaviorally,)

I mean, Iā€™ve never had a bird who was so willing to just approach for some millet, on day 2. Long pieces? Sure, but not short 1-inch pieces. He preens when Iā€™m close to his cage, too, which is a sure sign of some trust, if Iā€™m not mistaken.

I believe that behavior was learned simply from watching Rico and cricket take millet from my hands, and seeing how comfortable they were with it, and also done partly due to hunger, as he hasnā€™t eaten since yesterday. He was wary, but he was bold enough to do so, which I feel is a great sign from himā€” one of many.

Is it just me, or does the markings on his face (near identical on both sides,) look like wings? Also, for those wondering, the green stuff on his feathers is likely from veggies. My guess would be lettuce or peas.

Here he is napping

Eating some millets! :>

Crick and Gabe foraging together (she has no interest in him, as she thinks heā€™s scary, but Gabe is interested in being friends šŸ„ŗ)

If those markings around eyes are identical they could be wings. Combined with color and marking on head it could be a falcon or hawk flying.

Maybe itā€™s a sign heā€™ll be an excellent flyer? xD either that, or heā€™ll be a divebomber!

Welcome Gabe! Heā€™s so beautiful! I had a recessive pied budgie ( green and yellow) years ago who was a super sweet, mellow little guy. I wonder if personality is linked to color at all? Congrats on your new baby šŸ˜Š
