I have a 6 year old timneh african grey named Aries. He's a great bird except that he recently started biting my 13 month old son. I know he's jealous but tonight he bit my son so hard that he drew blood. Alot of blood, just short of my son needing stitches on his finger. He's bitten the baby before but never this hard. I don't know what to do. I try keeping them seperate but my son can walk very well and walks right up to the cage and gets bit. I am even considering looking for a new home for Aries. I feel terrible about keeping him in his cage but if I don't he goes after my son. Please, any help and advice would be really appreciated.

Oh that's so scary... :( I don't own a AG, but they are quite smart. Did you scold him and let him know his behavior is unacceptable? How did you react to his biting?

Does Aries have a different room he can stay in to prevent your child from going up the cage and for you to spend some quality time with him?
I would assume Aries thinks this is a game now where biting a baby and his screaming (?) equivalent to his favorite toy.
But in all honesty, I don't think your bird should be the one who has to suffer by being moved, reduced playtime, or rehoming.

1. Free standing baby gates around the cage. Keep those curious little fingers away from the bird. Build yourself a buffer zone between bird and child. THERE IS NO WAY to make this situation safe without putting a barrier around the cage. That's really part of "childproofing" the house.

2. Your CAG should be clipped so that he cannot dive bomb the baby, at least until your child is old enough to understand.

3. Supervision when he is out. Someone has to be in the room with the two of them or bad things happen...

Little kids and large beaks tend to be a bad combination.
