help pls!!! 2 months old green ring neck parakeet

pls help friends,
I bought 2 months old green parakeete a week ago. On 1st day i noticed that he is extremely scared, doesnt want to chirp (just did once when i had to shift him in the cage on 1st day...i guess it was out of fear) and also bite when he is scared and scratch on the corners of the cage.
Since his day 2 i am speaking to him softly on and off but he doesnt chirp atall. I try to feed him food by holding food in my hands but he never takes it . From last 3 days i let him go out of the cage and stroll around the house so that he gets himself comfortable with the surrounding but its not working tht well cuz he climb up the curtains and sits on the rail for as long as 12 hours without food. I try to then bring him back on the cage politely by putting his food inside so tht my little hungry bird see the food and git inside the cage..but i hv to struggle for sometime till he gets himself inside the cage. I dont know if i should let him go outside the cage daily cuz he never comes back by his own and brining him back is really a tiresome activity for me. I want him feel happy, chirp and trust me and allow me to cuddle him. Im extrmelly sad. Dont want him to be scared i want him to be happy. im animal friendly i love animals please help me.

One week is not a long time for a bird to become comfortable in its new home and to get used to all of the people that may be there.....

Be sure that he likes what you are trying to feed him...if he has never eaten it before, he may not know that it is food.....

Keep talking to him like you have been.....each bird is different, it might be another couple of weeks or it may take longer, but if you are patient, he will come around.....

maybe your bird is afraid of hands! Remember that bird VIEWS you as a flock member so if you eat what you are trying to feed him HE MAY try it. Also if a cop goes to your car and says you were speeding you PREDICT that he is gonna give you a fine. Same with parrots when your feathered friend sees that hand he is predicting that you are gonna scare him or whatever.

Maybe you should get him some bird mesh just for bedtime to keep him eating have you ever handfed before.

Get a perch and start perch training him to get on it. A lot of times they are readily to get on a perch over a hand. That would alleviate a lot of the stress on both of you! Plus it's like a extension to get to birds in high places that you can hardly reach. BUT do hold the perch steady so they don't freak out while on it. Has he ate at all?? Did you know what kind of food he was eating prior? Once you get that part out of the way that he is eating, then you can start the perch training process by using a second perch so he can learn to step up from perch to perch, repeat the process! Get a play stand if you haven't already, that will help you to keep him in one place instead of roaming every where.

hey qurrat.. wecco is right, 1 week is not a long time for a bird to become comfortable. some birds will get comfortable for few days, some may take weeks and some may be months prior. the longest that i've known is 4 months, and it depends on the time, patience and effort that you give to your bird. mine's have been handtamed since i've got her and have felt comfortable with me a week prior. she has been well-trained since then until i've lost her 2 days ago. just keep on talking to your bird and give him foods and drinks. perch training is still not advisable for the moment since it will not be of use because he will just fly and fly in the cage (a notice that he is still afraid of the environment). just put him on a quiet place and don't let him go out until he is comfortable. here's what you need to do, put a water, a minimal amount of food, whether seed, pellet or fruits and veges, and talk to him maybe max of 20 minutes for 3 sessions a day. soon, he will be comfortable and that will be the time that you can train him on perch.goodluck dude

You can start perch training from day one! So that's not true! I've trained quite a few. But taking him out with minimal 20 min session each time for 3+ times daily is exactly what I do.
