I have had a very abusive childhood and know what it takes to trust again. I will put my big girl pants on and trust him, like he is trusting me when he offers his foot!

I am so glad you just shared that! It gives you an insight into what he is going through! Just as you crave closeness, and ugly demons whisper in your ear, so goes your little one! You have triggers that to anyone else, are completely innocent! You don’t avoid these, you learn to reassociate these experiences into something positive! Otherwise, your yesterdays cloud your todays!
This is a great strength to have, and gives you an advantage!
In learning to trust your little one, you will have setbacks, 100% sure!

God and parrots hate a coward. THere may be the occasional parrot that never ever bites, but its an almost certaintly that at some point you will get bit. Once youlearn your parrots body language and moods ( and mating season) bites should be rare, or minor nips. But fear - never show fear, they can smell that a mile away and puts him in the drivers seat right off the bat. Sunshine is a fine bird, yellow fronts are a mellower species than thehot 3, he's just been caged a long time, with minimal human interaction ( from what you tell us). It will take some time for him to trust you implicitly. When he offers the foot to be picked up, buck up and take the plunge. You can keep a foot toy in the other hnd to distract him momentarily if he is just luring you in for a chomp. WHen Salty gets hormonal he lunges, and more often than not will give me a chomp, but that technique with the toy works well when I HAVe to pick him up.
