i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
I have small dogs (chinese crested & chihuahua) they are able to reach under the grate of the macaw cage and pull out all the newspaper, nuts, old food etc. It is driving me nuts! Does anyone know of a solution as to something to buy to attach to the cage to prevent this?

If it were me, for a quick fix I'd block it with something like a piece of wood or even cardboard. You could buy a wire-mesh type fence, cut it to size and use steel wire to tie it into place.

Or teach the dogs not to go near the bird cage, all of my dogs know to leave the bird cages alone.

I agree, get something that can block access to the bottom , something chew proof

I have my bird cages all in one room and it's gated away from the dogs. Can you do that?

If given the chance they will sneak into the room and snoot around the floor. I also have a Chinese Crested and with that narrow snout and persistent nature she will try to get things off the bottom of the one larger cage she can get into. I have to keep watch on her because my Eclectus could take a chunk out of her if she wanted to.

Yes that snout!! She must have the metabolism of a humming bird! LOL she could eat all day and not gain an ounce! She reaches under and just pulls everything out. a macaw is messy enough without Pia's help! I cannot keep them away from where the dogs are they are adjacent to our kitchen/family room. I have tried to train them to stay away and to say that they are not the most adept at training would be a huge understatement! I thought maybe they sold something I could use.

I can't think of anything. Maybe a baby gate or an ex-pen around the cage?

I used a puppy play pen around the cage when we first got Parker it's about 2-3 feet high and it worked great

My papillion/maltese mix Sugar is so annoying sometimes too lol. She is always with me, and when I am in my room were Rosie's cage is sugar is always sniffing around to see if anything has been thrown out of the cage, even if I just vacuumed she will take a look. By now I am used to it, I just make sure Rosie isn't throwing anything bad out.
Since Rosie's cage bars go all the way to the bottom, rather than only to the grate, I don't have to worry about sugar sticking her face there.

You would try what the others suggested, or maybe plexiglass. You can get it cut to size so you can still pull out the grate and bottom without taking the plexiglass off.

My husband and I have discussed this all day since this dog does not learn a lesson! I think we are going to try and get plexiglass panels. Hopefully it will do the trick and we can figure out how to attach it.

Well, Hahnzel keeps the puppies (standard poodle and german shepherd) at bay for the most part with reminders of what its like being bitten by an animal who wont be punished for doing so. His cage is off the floor on a rolling stand, so a smaller dog would not be able to reach the bottom of the cage. They also sell "deflectors" that are angled to keep too much food from getting out of the cage like a raingutter does.

Our cage has a pull out tray with a solid bottom so underneath isnt possible to get at.
