Help feather plucking

Hi guys.

My african grey parrot Sassy, plucks her feather all the time, she wont stop it. She has lived with me for 2 years now, and she is not looking any better since i bought her, not at all.

She is a very happe bird, she is nice and she really loves me, and i have tried many diffrent things now to stop her from plucking her feathers, including parrot collar, mite spray (to make sure shes not infected with feather mites), and bathing her every single day, and non of it helps her.

What can i do please help. And sorry for my bad english

And its not because shes pulling out the root of her feathers, they are growing out a little, and then she pluck it.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I don't have CAGs only a pair of TAGs that where very plucked when i got them. I have removed most of the stresses in their life and they are fully feathered now. They are very wild breeder birds who prefer to be left alone.Maybe some other CAG owners will chime in with some insight.I understand most plucking is caused by stress or boredom, could either of these apply to Sassy? Does she have a favorite person who spends lots of time with her? Plenty of toys ? Get any unfiltered sunlight?I've also heard of case where CAGs start to pluck at some point in their life and it becomes habitual even when the cause has been removed.Is she flighted ? Perhaps she needs lots of stimulation to break the habit.

Is she flighted? Sometimes feather plucking can be resolved if the bird can fly. It gives them something else to do. Does she have toys? What kind of food are you feeding her? Where is her cage in your home?

I am her favorite person, and actually the only persons that spends time with her. She is in my room in a cage with lot of toys she dosent wanna play with (no matter what she got). She is on Zupreem pellets, fruit and veggies. A week ago i bought another african grey, and i thougt that i cut put our new baby to sassy, but she dosent want to talk to other birds, only people, so she really needs to be "rehabilitated" so she can live as a normal parrot.

Could you try moving her to a more active part of the house where more people could interact with her more often ?

i have tryed that, shes just moved with me, otherwise shes been living wiht me and my girlfriend where she used to sit in our living room with our 5 other parrots

Well, I would stop bathing her every day. That might be too much for a Grey. Try doing down to 1-2 baths a week. I'm also going to add a humidifier for mine to help with her dry skin. If your house is dry, you might want to try that as well.

What is she eating? It's not unusual for a plucking problem to be a symptom of a food allergy.

I (and other plucked parrot owners) have had luck putting 'preening' toys in the cage or on the play stand. Kazi has a feather duster and lots of toys with bits that stick out, like straws and stiff bristles. He can preen and pull and chew those all he wants, and he does, but he leaves his feathers alone.
