Freyalise, a Green Cheek Conure.

Grew up around cockatiels and rehabilitated a few during my nomadic college years.
Hello!

My husband and I brought Freyalise, a 6-month Green Cheek, into our family today. We're excited but a little nervous. I've lived with, or temporarily rescued, several cockatiels, but this is the first bird of any other breed. My husband has seen me rescue a couple birds and wasn't sold on the experience because they had behavior problems after abuse and neglect. Right when they turned into angels, I found them a permanent home. I decided this go around to be a little selfish for his sake as much as mine and start with a young bird rather than try to rehab an older one.

We're Wyomingites by way of Montana and Seattle who have settled, of all places, in Houston, Texas.

I haven't had much of a chance to search the forums -- and I'm sure this is something someone else has already addressed -- but I would love tips on early training and trust building. All but one of the tiels I owned were rescues, so I've very little experience with juvenile birds.

Eager to be here.

Welcome to the forum! Clicker training is highly popular and effective. You can find all kinds of videos on YouTube as they're all pretty much the same and self explanatory. Good luck! :)

Another newbie to GCC's like me! I just purchased my first GCC, a yellow sided green cheek who I named Argyle, on tuesday!

Welcome to the forum!!! And it's species, not breed! ;)

I've also dealt with mostly adults, so dealing with a young bird is certainly something else!

Thanks everyone.

And hello Argyle! What a beautiful bird!

I'm waiting a few days before taking pictures because the pet store worker who removed Freya from her cage clearly had little experience with birds and scared her pretty badly. I had to tell this young woman that swiping your hand again and again at the bird (because she was timid and afraid herself) only makes matters worse.
