Hi there,
We are new to this type of thing. Both forum and a bird owner. :rainbow1:So please bare with us if we do or say anything we shouldn't be doing.

We got Elfie through a friend of a friend after we had heard Elfie had been in his cage for several years in the basement and not really cared for. He was in a hoarders house.

We are so excited to have Elfie in our home. We have had him just a week. We cancelled out vacation plans this past week to devote our undivided attention to him. Wow what a treat he is! He is very talkative, so far we have determined he knows at least 40+ words and communicates with us very well.

We have watched probably 50 you tube videos. We have done a lot or research online about our new featherd family member.

We want to make sure we are doing the right thing. We can hand feed him with no issue. He tells us no when he doesn't want a cookie or a peanut. Thanks us for new water. Has even mocked me snoring on the couch once.

The one thing we are curious about is getting him to come to us to hold him, move to our arms etc. I know it's only been 5 days. is this to much to soon? He's usually very gentle to feed. We Can rest mour non feeding hand between us sometimes with out much incident At times as he's perched on top of cage we can tell he wants to join us. But just hasn't got the nerve to leave his cage.

Any ideas to encourage him or help us become more trusting to him?

Thank you
Joe

Hi and welcome to the forum I sm not a macaw mom so I will leave the advice to those who have macaw fids but I hope you enjoy the forum :)

Wendy and Birdmann ( Mark) are probably the best macaw folks on here. Good luck. Take things slow and listen to their advice. Your doing well so far. Read, read, read, info on here and other trusted sources. He looks fantastic. You may wind up with a best friend for life, literally.

Welcome, and thanks for saving Elfie!

Elfie seems to be an outstanding great bird, but he will need time to acclimate to a new and better home. Assuming he has the same cage, it is a bit of security until he feels more comfortable.

Welcome to the forums! I'm glad Elfie found you and found a way out of an awful situation, thank you for giving a home to a bird in need.

I agree with the others, Elfie will need time to adjust and gain some self confidence and trust.
