Hi folks!
My girlfriend and I recently took the plunge and bought a Green Cheek Conure. His name is Dante. He's been home with us for 3 days now.
I'm not sure if we just got lucky, but our experience is not what I expected or what I've read is "typical". Dante wanted out of his cage, and on one of us (my gf and I) from the moment we got home. He will go into his cage when put there, and although he does complain, it isn't excessive. Like I said, it's only day 3, and yesterday & today, he allowed me to turn him on his back and open my hand while he played "dead bird".
Tonight, he fell asleep in my gf's hair while she was sleeping on the couch! So funny. I'm sitting right beside her as I type this so I can make sure she doesn't turn and hurt him, he's going back into his cage shortly since we will both be headed to bed.
We are both absolutely in love with him and his instant attachment to us. When we were looking at birds at the pet store, he ran right up to the window and rolled over on his back and started showing-off for us. That's when we knew we had to have him.
I'm reading everything I can to educate us to be great bird parents. Wish us luck! Here's some pics of Dante!
