I have 2 cockatiels!
Hello everyone I'm new to this page.. I just thought I would say Hi my name is Nicole. And I have 2 cockatiels. One that is almost 5 months old. I got her when she was 21 days old and hand fed her. Until we had a accident and she swallowed her feeding tube. Luckily we were able to get her to a again vet quickly and they were able to remove it. She was my first baby bird and I learned a lot on how to care for babies by taking care of her. When I decided I wanted a friend for her I knew hand feeding wasnt for me since it hadnt been too long since our accident. I got my new bird a few weeks ago. I was told she was still being formula fed twice a day but also ate pellets, seeds, and millet. Since she picked us I decided I would give formula feeding a try ago but with a different type of feeding device. I got her home and later that night after letting her adjust to her cage for a little while I went to feed her and she wouldnt eat the formula. She just wiped it onto my shirt or the napkin. I tried to feed her a few more times during the next few days and same thing. But I also watched her in her cage and she was eating a good amount of pellet. So I didnt try to formula feed her anymore. She has been good without it. The breeder that we got her from had a few birds of different ages in the cage so I think he got mixed up with the ages. No biggie though. From what I was told though she sould be 9 weeks old now. She seems very happy and has even started to warm up to us. Although she does like my husband more than me. Lol. But shes gotten where she doesnt run move or fly away when I put my hand in the cage to change the food or water. Sorry I can go on and on about my babies! Just thought I would give y'all a little insight on my babies and some of my experiences with them! :grey::white1:

Welcome and be welcomed. You are indeed lucky. Hand feeding chicks, by someone who is not thoroughly experienced and trained often leads to chick death. We see it on here all the time. You should have a scale that is able to measure weight in grams, and weigh your babies daily, since weight loss is an early indicator of problems with parrots, and more so for babies/juveniles. Weigh at the same time every day, after they take their big poop in the A.M. .

Oh, wow! What a wonderful bit of luck, indeed. I am so happy to hear such a rosy outlook for both your darlings. We hear so many scary stories about newcomers trying to hand-feed or wean babies. I appreciate your cautionary tale!

I have a scale and when my baby was littler I would wiegh her daily and write down her weight. I do still weigh them both sometimes too.
