This morning I got a dreaded phone call that Nelson had passed away over night. He had been his usual self on Sunday and I fed him as usual Monday morning before work. When I got home at lunchtime I noticed he hadn't touched his food, had been sneezing and has a discharge from his nose and his poop was unusual. I tried to give him some of his favorite warm mash and he took a couple of bites then declined. He was so quiet. I took him to the bird specialist vet straight after work and he went downhill so quickly just from the time we left home until the vet was able to see him. They kept him in overnight in the incubator but unfortunately it was too late. They think it was psittacosis so I am taking Barry in for testing this afternoon although he seems himself and also notified his breeder. He was only just 5 months old. I am now very worried for Barry, I couldn't bare to lose them both!
Rest easy Nelson. I will bury him under the big tree I had to climb to get him out of with the first passionfruit from my vine, I was so excited for the first one so I could share it with him and Barry.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope Barry is ok

I'm sorry for your loss!!! I hope Barry is ok but you should have a necropsy done on Nelson just to rule out Psittacosis, cause if that's the cause you need to get yourself checked out as it can transfer to humans.

Oh no! I am so sorry for your loss:( My heart is breaking for you. RIP Nelson, you will be missed.

Thanks, I will I've to check cost for necropsy, it is something I would like done. But it was going to cost $800-1000 to keep him in overnight and do x rays and tests so i can't imagine it will be cheap and that was without treatment.

i am so sorry for your loss, i have my fingers crossed for negative results on Barry!

I am so sorry for your loss, please look into the Necropsy, it will give you all the answers you are looking for.
Poor Nelson, he was so young!
sending **HUGS** your way.

I am so very sorry to hear this!

That is just awful. I hope Nelson didn't suffer too much. I know how it feels to have a beloved bird go down at the vet's office. It's so hard, but you have all of us here for understanding and support.

I really hope that Barry is okay. Psittacosis is a treatable disease if caught early enough, if that eases your mind at least a little about Barry. Also, see a doctor yourself at the slightest instance you don't feel well cause as Mikey said people can get it too. Again I'm so sorry.

I am so very sorry to read this sad news. I love that you put Nelson beneath the tree where you shared the first passion fruit. I hope Barry's test results are negative. My thoughts are with you.

Oh Im sorry ,It can happen so quick

His time here was short, Sophia, but filled with happiness. He couldn't have asked for a better parront, companion, or friend.
Fly straight and soar high, Nelson. You'll be missed. Rest in Peace.

Barry is in overnight for observations while they do a necropsy on Nelson to decide where to go from there. Boy is he going to be grumpy at me for leaving him there! I just want it all cleared up so I know Barry is safe.

I am so sorry to hear this very sad news. Fly free Nelson and watch over your flock.
