head shots of Salsa with a better camera (i.e., not taken with my phone this time)

Salsa's beak seem fine to me, it was nothing near like what JoJo and Gracie's was. Stop posting so much about Salsa dang it....lol....Your making me jealous with such a pretty bird! I had a chance to get a Greenwing but partner says no to another macaw as Willie is a handful....lol....

Wow Wow Wow

Salsa is sure a beautiful bird, with the most awesome colouring

I would not like to come into contact with beak !!!!!!!!!
I love kissing birds, BUT would give Salsa a miss hehe

Thanks for sharing those most incredible pic's with us
Thanks so much antoinette, you're quite welcome :). And you're right, sometimes contact with Salsa's beak isn't very pleasant  ...but most of the time he's a sweetheart.

Yes his beak looks fine to me, too. Personally, I think it's an extraordinarily beautiful beak, as Macaw beaks go (perhaps a bit of bias there). But I appreciate your kind words and I'd like to stress that you should never be jealous because each and every one of these guys is wonderfully magnificent! Each is an individual and each is amazingly beautiful!

Thanks Wendy! But all I really did was snip off the tip :). The rest is Salsa's own work ;). It seems that both I and willist simply began to over-scrutinize some small details of Sala's beak. And I'd say it was all in response to WharfRat's initial joke about the matter. I think it was Warf's final statement in said post ("still great shots :D") that caused me to take him somewhat seriously . I'm merely a concerned Macaw dad who wants to know if/when something has been overlooked, I suppose . (Note: No hard feelings WR... I'm determined to catch on to your brand of humor one of these days :p)

I know, my sarcasm is a little "over the top" sometimes (ok, most of the time) :54:

I'm gonna get Rea and Miri out early today just to get better pics of their beaks to compare. ReaRea's beak looks like &%^$ right now due to the flaking and Miri's tail feathers are pretty ratty right now but at least shes got some new ones coming in.

There is nothing wrong at all with Salsa's beak btw. :)

No, I am not referring to the "flaking" that's natural. that's how the beaks grow. What I'm referring to is the area of the upper beak were there seems to be a small dip in the beak between say were it touches the lower beak and about 3/8" before the tip. Please don't misunderstand me I'm not saying there is anything wrong, its just a difference between Auggie and Salsa's beaks. When Auggie broke a piece of his beak once it looked liked Salsa's beak looks in the photos you just posted but after sometime it returned to the way it looks now. All birds are different and I've seen GW's with beaks both ways. BTW, Plax, what's going on with Zello I never hear anyone anymore. I wish more people would use it, it sure beats typing.

Oh, I see what you mean. The narrowing there. And I agree with your point about the individual beak shapes of each bird. So that's just the unique shape of Salsa's upper beak. It would be an individual characteristic, a bit similar to some of us having rounded fingernails while others have square, narrow, or elongated ones. The seemingly reduced area you're speaking of begins just below Salsa'a prominent grasping ridge on the underside of his upper beak. So it's definitely not damage or a result of trauma. Three of the four head shots were taken at slightly oblique angles so they tend to exaggerate that step-down area. On the third photo (posted below) you can see a better profile of his beak line.

As for Zello, I wish more members would use it as well. It seems that when some people have a technical issue with a system like Zello (or if they experience a network glitch) they simply give up on it. I think that's a shame. Myself and drew92 seem to be the only members who are connected to Zello most of the time . Tab and you get on there once in a while, but I've not noticed WharRat or JerseyWendy using it for quite some time :(.

Those head shots of Salsa are simply stunning:)
