does any body have any experience with hawk headed parrots? i fostered one a while ago, and he was such a obsessive screamer, is this their personality trait, or was he just a basket case of a bird. i originally was looking into getting a gw but i think in my living situation and were i am at a gw might have to wait until we have a better house, and not such close neighbors. i still want one very much but i think it would be better for the bird if i just was patient and waited till we move to a better area. the short time i had the hawk head, he was a bit crazy, so i was hoping that it was some kind of issue he had, and hope they aren't all like that. maybe i misunderstood him also. but i never figured out why he screamed so much. i know when a bird does this they usually want something, and i tried everything to please that bird, and nothing worked. he had the majority of the day out of the cage, but was skittish of people, he was more comfortable at a distance just watching everybody. if he happened to fly off the cage, he would step right up with no hesitations though. :31: if anybody could give me any advice that would be very much appreciated. hawk head's are cute little birds, but i don't know a whole lot about them. i am going to be doing some research but i figured i might as well ask around here as well while i am studying them. :22:

I have never seen one except in pictures and am interested in the replys that you may get Iwill be following the this thread with interest. Thanks for asking the question:):)

oh aliray, they are the cutest and unique at the same time. cheif was the hawk head i had fostered, and let me tell you his scream sounded like a house alarm going off, and there was no way of shutting off until he felt like he was done, and what ever his point was, came across loud and clear lol. i was just wishing these guys weren't like that all the time.

If you were fostering him, the behavior might have started from a former home or he could have been housed near some other birds who screamed a lot such as a big too. I know in the pics I saw they were unbelievably cute and with the crest up wow:)

I've seen several but only at zoos. They are small beautiful birds who are known for bluffing, and can be very playful. I've seen many videos online were they seem to love to chase things and remind me of a cat.

Unfortunately I don't know if they are big on vocalization or not.

here's a video of one i found on the you tube. i thought it was pretty cute and funny. they seem to have some capability of talking, not as good as the greys, zons, or ekkies, but they have the ability. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWXPhgs7qfA]Archie's sound effects - YouTube[/ame]

Thanks for sharing the video and I can see why you want one. Now I want one too. He is too cute and except for his cough seems pretty healthy:rolleyes: He talks pretty clearly. and I like the colors.:)

no problem, they also seem to be just as playful as the caiques. but also self sufficient to keep themselves occupied without human interaction when the owners are away. so they could be a less demanding breed of bird. not saying they don't need attention but not as clingy as a 2 would be.

I think you need to get one.:D

At one time I also was interested in getting a Hawk Headed parrot. I would LOVE to try to find one but I think this species would be too much a parrot for Lupe to handle. I have my RFM which is a handful and I realize I need to look into a species that is more gentle and mellow.

Hawk Headed parrots are very cool and would be a blast to have though.
