She is such a stinker today. Making it impossible to clean her house. I'm getting so frusterated I had to stop and post. I broke a part of her playstand so now there's this huge sharp screw sticking out and it goes right through the main part of the tree so I can't just remove the screw. Holy crap she won't stop flying into her house never used to be a problem before when her wings were clipped. But the last couple times she won't even give me 2 minutes to clean. This huge nice playstand and she won't use it. Wow am I flustered today.

Have you tried do this whilst she is eating her breakfast? Put it on a covered table for example whilst you clean away?

What is the playstand made of?

Perhaps a re-education of just doing a few little things in her cage whilst she is still in it will give her some confidence. Tell her everything you are doing, you sound bonkers but who cares LOL?

You could get a carrier they carry dogs in (a medium size would fit a grey) for a few minutes while you clean, or whatever you use to bring her to the vet. As for the huge screw sticking out, consider getting something to put over it, maybe buy a pool noodle and stick some foam on there? Careful she doesn't try to eat it though :)

I ended up with a similar problem. Before Bella could fly she was affectionate and was willing to set with me. she was well behaved.

Now she does her own thin and fly's away any time we do something she does not like (even scratching her neck).
She is showing her independence. I have even considered clipping her wings, something I consider a last resort. I have a nice tree stand she refuses to use.

I think my Bella is starting to mellow out a little bit because she has started letting me scratch her when out of her cage.

I thing your bird is having a taste of freedom. Hopefully she will calm down in time.

It's a big java tree playstand. Loaded with toys and stuff for her to destroy. It stands like 4 feet tall and is on wheels. I was trying to get it into a different room and crack. I just have to glue the tree branch back on. I was just getting flustered and needed to take a break. You guys are always so helpful. I just wanted to work on her house for a bit before work. She had her food to eat and even nutriberries were no distraction today. She just wanted to be with her Dad and play today. I would hate to clip her wings now she's just getting her flying down. But I did think about it. Her travel backpack she hates and isn't really big enough for the time I need. I've been thinking of getting a sleeping cage slash travel cage anyway now it would be for when I'm steam cleaning too. My dogs name is Bella, and Timneh calls her Bell Bell it's so cute. Timneh almost always wants to be on my shoulder or head. Hopefully she doesn't loose her interest in me. Just very hard to steam clean her house she not afraid of the steamer but new small toys are scary go figure.

LordTriggs I'm doing the whole treat stash in her carry bag right next to her house going to hang it up also. Timneh even looks at the treats funny.

haha give it time. No doubt you'll look over at some point and see either her butt or face poking out from it

as for the tree you could try filing the screw down?

does her cage have a playtop? Rio liked to sit on his and observe what was going on with his cage when I cleaned/re-arranged it

No chance! Syd goes right into attack mode if I try anything with his cage other than add food etc.
A sleep cage solves all sorts of problems for us. I steam clean, redesign and generally play havoc with his cage when he is asleep. Ignorance is bliss!

Sounds like Timneh is behaving like a spoiled teenager. "It's my room, and I like it messy!"

Either removing her from the room for cleaning or the suggestion of a smaller "sleep" or travel cage might be best?

Timnehs knot and block toy she sleeps on wasn't quite dry. So I finished drying it in the oven after work and put it in front of a fan. Went to put it back in her house last night and she hopped on it while in my hand and didn't want to hop off. Then while I was hanging it she launched herself inside the cage and chomped me. lol it's like I'm putting it back silly. If I hadn't removed my hand quickly I think there would of been blood. She just barely cut me. She sure gets defensive about her house. That's alright it's hers and she knows it lol. Timnehs cage has the dome top that opens up and a smaller perch door that she hangs out on. She's pretty content to hang out on her house. The screw is surprisingly large that's sticking out of the playstand I could cut then file it. I think it will be easier to either fix the wood or replace it with a new piece. Sorry for the garbled post haven't had any coffee yet.

Perjo in the last 45 days has become very interested in me cleaning her cage, will not let me do it without her being involved. Just part of the game that I signed up for when I got her.

Ok so how do you get around it? Do you also use a steam cleaner or what do you clean with?

When I would clean/feed/add-remove toys from Smokes' house, she'd sit on her roof top, lean over the edge, and look at me,often exclaiming "Woo...Woo" as I did her chores lol
I think she was telling me how to arrange stuff

I have a couple stages of cleaning.

A quick daily clean in which I clean all the poop off the bottom and sides etc. I use poop off spray and a scrubber, she tends to want to be on the inside of the door and nip at my ear or shoulder when I do it. Sometimes she climbs down on the bottom grate and that's when I have to get stern and force he back up top.

The next stage of cleaning is when I pull the bottom tray out, every other day (once in a great while it's every third day). She doesn't get in the way as much and typically sits atop the door and watches. But once in awhile will come down and stick her nose in the mess, just have to force her up. I also do a quick clean up of the residual food and poop on the sides and around the bowls. She tends to climb down and want to get involved again. When she's too close and wont cooperate I just have her step up and take her to her travel cage to watch from across the room. She will sometimes try to walk over to me, just have to be very aware that she might have climbed down.

When I steam clean the whole cage I usually put her inside the travel cage and put her in a nearby room so she can see me, but I lock the door.

Consider buying an extra bottom grate for the cage to keep as a clean spare, then you can take the dirty one outside and scrub really well while bird gets to continue use of her home cage.
